Mission: Declutter and Organize

I love to organize. Most days you wouldn't know it from the state of our home, but I blame that on the two-year-old, Hurricane Bub. I have a sickness with it, like this, but this sickness I haven't really shown you here yet.

This year was the Year of Declutter in our house. I decided last December that I would scour every. single. crevice of this house and get rid of anything we didn't need and organize everything else. It's taken all year long, but I've (almost) done it! It is the BEST feeling! My favorite transformation is our unfinished basement -- the change is amazing and I'll share it soon.

So with the new year approaching us, I figured we should share some inspiration and get organized in 2009. On January 12, I'll ask you to share the ways you organize your home (I'm going to use that cool Mr. Linky thing!! Yay!). I've seen some really cute ideas on various blogs and I know there are so many fun ideas that out there that we need to share.

Yes, it is October and I'm talking about January. Planner, much? I told you I have problems. So get ready, and think about those fun, easy or cheap ways you organize so you can inspire us!

P.S. Any respectable organizer MUST have the Dymo label maker, used above. Ahhh, you'll label everything! Your kids, your cats, your husband!!

**Edited to say I moved the date for this back a bit, so we could all get Christmas put away, the house de-garlanded and could breath for just a bit before jumping into another party.

  4. De-cluttering is the BEST feeling. I have been going strong for about 2 weeks now and I have noticed a huge difference in my work around the house.

    Keep up the good work!

  5. I went over and looked at your moulding posts. I too like moulding, it adds something special to a room. But our main rooms have cedar beams across them, which I also really like. Therefore, moulding just wouldn't work in those rooms. But I have put it up in a couple of bedrooms and it really made them pop.

  6. I love organizing also! Although I have 3 tornados and a husband that like to mess it all up on a daily basis!

I don't have a dymo though :O( Maybe I should ask for one for Christmas lol.

  8. Hi, I am expecting and we have been decluttering like crazy. I have to say......since most of the stuff we have gotten rid of is in the closets it isn't that noticable yet. But dh says soon. Plus, we have been getting baby stuff...so it kind of replaces some of the other things. Love your site. It is so fun. jennie

  10. I'm in! Sometimes I think I'm doing really good at organizing, sometimes - not so hot! I decluttered alot before our move to England - but I'm sure there is more to do, or at least more organizing. Dear Hubby says I organize more than I scrapbook!

  11. Seems like I can only DREAM about organizing! I've inherited so many things ~ it's hard to dispose of them. "What would Great Aunt Lucile say?" etc.....

But I am willing and ready to join you and dig in!

  13. I'd love to participate, but I'm the most unorganized person in the world. For a Wordless Wednesday, I posted a picture of my kitchen utensil drawer. It's a nightmare. I'll have to be sure to read everyone else's tips.

  18. I heart organizing too and I envy those tv shows that do it for you. I wish I could do that. But for now I have to organize my pantry, my refrig, my linen closet and the list will go on. but that is my goal for this year. happy organizing year to all of us.

  22. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I need to see your unfinished basement transformation! I recently had to "unfinish" my semi finished basement due to water damage...
BTW I made absolutely gorgeous silouhettes of my kids as well-I mounted them on tan paisley paper and they look amazing.

  23. I've got the Dymo and I'm ready to go! Thanks for the 'jumpstart' help! I'd better get off the computer and get to it or I won't have anything to show!

  24. I am so ready to have a clutter free home! I am a bit OCD, but with a two year old boy and a 5month old boy it doesn't quite get done how I'd like!
