Do you follow?

OK, I've been going back and forth on this for months...the new followers thing on Blogger has created love/hate feelings for me. Love it because when I get a new "follower" (HATE that term), I practically squeal with glee I'm so excited!! Hate it because when I used to see them on blogs, I was so turned off by it, like I was in high school again and it was a weird popularity contest.

I know, I know, I read WAY too far into stuff. I'm deep you know. Anyhoo...I've kinda changed my mind lately. Just today I added my first few blogs to my own followers list and WHOA, this is SO MUCH EASIER than bookmarking every page and clicking through all the sites every time I get online...AND we have two computers in our house (sucky one and kinda sucky one) and I bookmark different blogs on different computers.

Soooo, my question is, do you mind when people show their followers on the blogs? I'm thinking I'm going to do it, because now it seems kind of fun. I know this is really not a big deal...but if you have any thoughts about it, let me know.

And stay tuned because I have some fuuuuun stuff to show you later tonight! YAY.

**Edited to say I went ahead and added them to the side...more for YOU than anything. I'm finding this is a very easy way to find new fun sites, so go check them out! Please keep commenting about this if you want!!

  1. I use my Google Reader to follow, which is very easy. I also have a list of links in the sidebar of my site. I don't mind you showing who you follow, I think it is a great idea!

  2. I use Google Reader too. I know, I was kind of scared of the whole "follower" thing and rather than get myself all worked up about who was following me, I opted just to keep in anonymous so I can at least not feel like I have to keep up with people. Make any sense?

  4. I personally don't think everyone needs to see the followers. I have a whole whopping 1 follower but when I go to sites that have them, I dunno, I think that it's like saying "look who loves me! everybody!" Not that it makes them bad people, of course, but that's just what I think. I'm not a blog VIP, so you don't even really have to care what I say! lol But, girl, you do what you wanna do - it's your blog! We all make the world go 'round follower pics or no follower pics. Can't wait to see your stuff! Check out my little project on my blog. I'm so proud. Give me a little spray paint can award or something.

  5. I never really even thought about it. I know that I have found some of my favorite bloggers through other blogs. I think maybe you should give it a try. If it doesn't work no big deal.

  6. I like it personally, but I only have 3 proclaimed followers on my blog! :( One reason I like it is because I've found new blogs this way. Say you have a food blog, your followers are most likely other food bloggers and so I just click on their profile and I've just found more good recipes!

  7. Jodi and Melissa, that's what I've been noticing too!! Good points by all -- thanks ladies, this helps!!

  8. I definitely recommend google reader too. Then you don't have to waste time going to a blog to find that there isn't anything new read. It just highlights itself on google reader. I love it!

The follower thing doesn't bother me. I really don't seem to see it used much or else I just don't notice! LOL

  9. I know what you mean about the followers thing. I resisted and didn't put it on my blog until recently...and now I'm thinking about removing it.

I use Bloglines so I don't even look at new postings through the follower with blogger.

  10. I love it! I was leary at first as well, but I also use Google reader, and clicking on the follow button in someones blog makes it so easy to add them to my reader. One of the big pluses for me is that you don't have to leave the page you are on to begin following it (whereas otherwise you are automatically redirected to the subscription feed of Google reader). So personally I prefer it (and I don't have a single follower of my own yet, lol). I guess if I didn't use Google reader it might not be as handy though.
    Ok, that's my bit, lol.

  11. I like it because I can see who has updated their blog easily. It can be depressing when you go to someone's blog that has 200 followers and I've only got 10! I just wish more who visit would comment cause I enjoy the comments!

  12. I follow a bunch of blogs (including yours) because it's a lot easier to read through them. I only have one person that follows my blog and when she did I squealed with delight. I don't have my followers list on the side yet, but I'm thinking about it. I do have a list of the blogs I follow though.

  13. Sarah, I personally don't care. I think it makes things easier for some people. I use it, sometimes!!
It depends on how busy I am. Have a great weekend!!! Hugs, Terrie

  14. I don't really care one way or another, but I don't think I'd ever add the "followers" button thing unless I had some killer fab people reading me that I wanted other people to check out too.

I love my Google reader too. It's the best. You can check it from any computer at all and it's a one stop update on every blog you want to "follow". I. heart. it.

  15. It really doesn't matter much to me, one way or another. Give it a try and if you change you mind, no big deal! Hope you're having a great Saturday!!

  16. Sarah, I like it, too....I was somewhat skeptical at first, too, but the more I found other blogs I liked, the more I was impressed that this is the way that I wanted to do it. So I am glad you did! I'll be checking out who follows you now! Like minds think alike, and like some of the same things, so I am curious......and love to find other great blogs!
    Thanks!

  17. I display my Followers because I know for some people that is how they "bookmark" like you used to do. But, I don't follow anyone myself, I use my blogroll as my bookmarks/blogs I read regularly. At one point I was trying to do both and I didn't like it. The blogroll works for me, personally. I do try to visit eveyone on my Followers at least once a week.

  18. I just use google reader. So, unless I decide to comment or want further details (some people on set out the first few sentences - this can be good because people will click on it to read the rest or bad because your intro may be boring to them but the end interesting and they might not click to read). I don't pay attention usually to who is following whom unless I'm really bored and looking for more blogs to follow (because, you know the 300 or so I follow now are not enough, lol).

  19. i know what you are saying but i more likely to follow a blog that has it on the blog. it is just so easy to hit follow and your are done.

  20. It's ABOUT time Sarah! I'm with you I don't like the word "followers" it sounds sort of cultish. I follow Jesus but I like to read blogs...weeelll, anyway! Did you ever get that little thingy I sent you????

  21. I use Google Reader. I don't mind seeing people's followers, it's kind of fun though I don't show up since I use GR. Oh well.

I have something waiting for you on my blog.

    Have a great weekend!

  22. Yeah, I use Google Reader so the "followers" thing didn't make a difference to me. Except that a lot of the blogs in my Reader are now double because they are followed on here and in Reader - and Reader adds blogs you follow on Blogger to it as well. That probably made no sense :)

  23. Yes! I agree! I actually just started following yesterday, after being excited to find I have my own followers. And it is SOOOOO much easier to browse my favorite blogs without clicking on each link. I was actually thinking about writing a blog about this! Beat me to it! lol :) Thanks for stopping by my blog too by the way!

  24. You really should try a reader - I use Bloglines, which has been giving me problems, I want to switch to Google reader - you will love it! - it tells you when the blogs on your list have made a new post!

As far as followers on a blog - I don't care one way or the other -but I do like when blogs list blogs they follow, it's a fun way to find new blogs.

  25. I'm pretty new so this has been a great way to find new blogs!

  26. I like it, funny tho I never thought of it as a popularity contest. I've never been popular so nothing will change for me. tee hee.

I like it cause if I have a new followers I usually go and visit their blogs as well. Easier for me to do because I have a few blogs that I follow. Not tons like some.

What I'm trying to say is I LIKE it. :)

  27. I was the same way at first, but then I just gave in and it REALLY is so much easier. Plus it helps me to meet new bloggers who might follow, but don't really comment.

  28. It doesn't bother me either way. But I use Bloglines to follow my blogs. It sure is nice to be able to go to the blogs only when they post something new, instead of clicking on each one to see if there's anything new. Good luck with the decision.

  29. I don't follow anyone, I have a blog roll for that, but I LOVE people who follow me. Seriously. They might be crazy psychos, but I love them all. All nine of them!

  31. I've been kind of on the fence about it too...might try it, though.

  32. I don't know a lot about following. I don't know how to follow anyone or how to get people to follow me. Ok...I am kind of slow. lol. Sounds fun though!

  33. I like it because it is SUPER easy to add someone and it puts it on my Google Reader for me!!

  34. I'm pretty new to the blog world but I love my follow list because it's way easier than bookmarking. I can see when someone updates and know to check out their post :-) I actually never thought of it as a popularity thing or anything but I can totally see that now...uh oh, hehe.

  35. I use the Google Reader also. I can see your point on the follower thingy. I have just one public follower, and I was overjoyed to get one! One could have many followers, but the people prefer to remain anonymous. I don't even really pay attention to anyones followers. I have found a lot of lovely blogs through others sidebar bloglist though.

  36. I like to follow (lol, I sound like a sheep!!) for the reason that you said- I love that whenever I find a blog I know I must read again, I can just click and when I log in to Blogger, it will tell me they have a new entry :) So simple.

Sometimes it gets overwhelming for me (especially after the weekends- I rarely touch the computer on weekends, so I have like 2,876,465 entries to read on Mondays!), but then I just try and decide WHICH of these blogs I really need to read.

I know a lot of people use Google reader or something like that, but I find blogger good enuff for me. Then again, I only have two followers myself, so what do I know?

    lol.

  37. I wasn't sure about it at first. Then I thought that I liked giving exposure to other blogs & I liked getting exposure from blogs I read.

I found some great blogs on accident through the follower links.

  38. I'm still on the line about putting mine up on my blog. I only have 5 followers so far :( but I know I have more readers than that.

  39. Follow double posted to my Google Reader every time! I took it down, but I want to try it again and see if the kinks have been worked out of it yet.
