Magic. Take Two.

You so know me by now and were probably expecting this...but I had to make a change. The tree candles on the mantel were so...oh I don't know, 2006. I adore them, but they just didn't do the GORG magnolia garland justice. Sooooo...

I took floral foam, stuck a ton of garland in there, wrapped 100 lights in it (Good LORD!) and more flowers. Ummmm...love it. But is it too much? Even if it is, I luuurve it and it's stayin'.

**Edited to add -- I kept the crystal candlesticks (honestly, just because I am totally lazy and didn't want to take a trip to the basement to get the others. Added some green sparkly candles and done! I also moved the NOEL stocking holders to another spot.

Is it sacrilegious to not hang your stockings on the mantel when you have a mantel?? :)

I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving. Enjoy your family and friends and just relax and have fun with it all. We will do very little other than cook, eat, lounge, watch TV, lounge, eat, cook, eat, eat. Sleep. Sounds like perfection to me. We are ready:

Also stocked up on Christmas cookies, cinnamon rolls and wine. We've got all we need. :)

Finally, I told you my house pukes up garland...(this is about a tenth of it):

This weekend I'll show you how easy it is to hang this and transform the outside of your home.

P.S. Don't forget to be thinking of some of your favorite things for December 1st!! Mr. Linky is coming and I want to see your favorite things you love right now -- it can be ANYTHING -- craft stuff, decorating stuff, holiday decor, jewelry, cleaning supplies, food, blogs, whatever! I find the greatest things when people share their favorites. I have the giveaway almost completed. :)

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!

  1. I think you should go with the crystal candle holders. They look the best.

And the NOEL stocking holders look good there now, but what's it going to look like when you hang stockings. I think that might make it too busy. Do you have a bookcase or something you can hang them on?

  2. Looks great now. I see what you are saying about the contrast but the crystal ones look great. How did you make the S wreath? Love that.

  3. I have the same dilemna w/ my stocking holders...the ocd in me vs. the letting the kid have her stocking...so I vote for letting the little sweetie having his stocking hang there for Santa. Can't wait to see your garland tutorials b/c I dread doing mine (1st time) worse than anything else!

  4. Don't get me wrong - I love what you added, but I do think it is a bit much. I like the contract of lighted tree, no lights, and then lighted garland when you had the candles. And I liked the darker candles for the same reason.

  5. Noel gets lost in the greenery, but I LOVE everything else. Put the stockings wherever the heck you want--I'm sure it'll look stunning wherever they end up! =)

  6. Hi Sarah, I think the more lights the better! I love what you did, I think it's stunning! I like the crystal candleholders, they don't show up as well as the others though. Hmmmmm..... that's a hard one. As for the noel.... I like it, but I'm wondering if it looks better without it. I'm like you, not sure. I don't hang stockings on my mantle because I swag it like yours. I don't think you have to hang stockings, I don't even have any! Shame on me. hehe. I really love what you have done, I would tell you if I felt strong about either way, but I really think they both work! Good luck,I might not have helped alot. Oh, and thanks for your sweet compliments!! Kristen

  7. Ok, so I'm changing my mind. Before I said I liked the bronzy candlesticks, but now I definitely like the crystal ones better with the new decor. I think everything looks GORG!!! And I know I may not be very popular for saying this, but...I like the mantle better without the stocking holders. Oooohhh, I know, stockings really should be hung by the chimney with care, but I feel strongly that cuteness outweighs tradition (ha, ha, ha). I am bucking tradition this year too, and hanging mine from the piano. Maybe. I'm not completely sold yet. We'll see.

  8. Oh how I love you!

I love the new addition and I agree with you...much better than the trees.

Again, I vote for the brown candle sticks...especially since you've added more sparkle with the new arrangement.

I also say ditch the NOEL. It's too much and makes it too busy. The arrangement/one tree and the mantle piece is so beautiful by itself! Really! It's a georgous arrangement!

    (I like the word arrangement.)

    Have a good one!

  9. Definitely keep the NOEL. I love how the silver sort of catches the light of the garlands.

Also, I have to say again and again how much I love your moulding.

  10. I'd say go with your chunky brown candlesticks. You don't need the sparkle of the crystal candlesticks; your magnolias and lights give plenty of sparkle. I think your instinct about contrast is right on. Aren't you loving the fact that you have a corner fireplace? What a fun place to decorate. I'd say you can hang your stockings anywhere you like!

  11. I like the way the crystal candlesticks look with everything, but use the brown ones if that is what you like! I also have a corner fireplace and am thinking of trying to replicate this to some extent... our fire gets really hot though and I've burned my swag a few times. Oops! I hang our stockings on the wall near the fireplaces. Christmas morning, they are loaded down and I sit them on the floor.

  12. Sarah, I personally prefer your new arrangemant on the mantel!!!!
    "Happy Thanksgiving".

  13. I like the Noel on the mantel. Maybe you could wrap some pip berry garland around the crystal for some contrast. Something like a single strand... like this...

  14. I think it looks perfect now - crystal candlesticks, the new magnolia addition, ditch the noel. I think having the lit magnolia thingy instead really sets off your swag and it's not as busy looking, looks more unified or something, IMHO. We have a mantle but I don't hang the stockings up, they come out when they get filled (and then they're to heavy to hang)

  15. I loved it the first time, but love it better this way. Some glass for some sparkle and the arrangement instead of the trees is much better. Great job!

  16. KEEP the Noel stocking holders... they are beautiful & the lights twinkle off of them so beautifully!!

And stockings can just be laid under the tree as well... Santa knows not to mess up a beautiful decoration when he sees one!

  17. I still like the candlesticks better... they stand out more. I like the NOEL on the mantle but if you hang your stockings there they will cover your pretty garland won't they? Tough one. Either way, it is beautiful. I did my tree and garland last night and am going to post about it sometime today hopefully!

  18. I think it looks great either way! I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving!

  19. I say you leave the "NOEL" and the candelsticks off. I love how it looks with the added garland, lights and flowers!!!!

  20. I like the NOEL and the crystal candlesticks. I love how crystal bounces off the little lights. Do you have a banister you could hang the stockings from? Would your stockings do the mantel justice? If they are a totally different look (like red with Santas) I say don't hang them from the mantle. Hey aren't they hung from the foot of the bed in some children's stories? ;)

  21. Oh so cute..I love your mantel..it's magical!
    Happy Thanksgiving to you, Sarah!

  22. I vote for the brown candle sticks I like the contrast better the crystal ones are lost against the color of the wall I think. I like the garland around the tree instead of the small trees.
I couldn't even see the noel in the picture so it would probably have a bigger impact somewhere else. I also do not see how your stockings would hang there very well with the big garland.
If you hang your stocking up early for decorations, (we don't ours go up Christmas eve) But if you do then I think it will be too busy.
    Your mantel looks great.

  25. Happy thanksgiving! I haven't dragged my boxes out of the attic yet, but I'm itching to.

  26. i like the darker candle sticks. love the contrast. i also agree with you on the 2006 tree decor, but believe not hanging your stockings on the mantal when you have one, may make me angry. (because i don't have one!)so please tell me where to put my stockings...on the banister?? happy decorating.

  27. I like the NOEL, but with the lights out it sort of got lost into the garland. I love the way it just glows. :)

  28. I love the added sparkle and bling of the new arrangement! Just gorgeous! I love the Noel stocking holders because they really bump everything up a notch further and peak the words of the season! I agree that perhaps it won't look right with actual stocking hanging from it but why not step it out even further and hang something else instead? Little gold/cream/chartreuse blown glass or fabric ornaments in the shapes of ladies shoes/slippers, Sumptuous Ribbon Bows tied to the hooks, Or even a single magnolia blossom with a black and white or sepia picture of each of your family members as it's center.... these are just some ideas that spring to my mind right now.

the candlesticks, I like the crystal because I'm positive that they must pick up all the lights and just glitter beautifully! I found the Brown ones to be too heavy and tall, not harmonious with the tree but rather competed with it. I'd add some colored candle in there either Gold or Chartreuse. can't wait to see what you come up with!

  29. Just thought of something else...Gold mini picture frames with pictures of your family in them....

  30. I'm not going to offer an opinion on brown vs. crystal because I'm clueless but did want to say I like your newest addition.

    Looks really elegant.
