Choo choo tree!

Choo choo

The very first tree we put up this year was a new one in the Bub’s playroom. The tree itself is old, it’s the one we used to use in the family room. I’ve always wanted a tree just for him, and last year I ended up getting a little three foot tree at a Deals store. It was a total SCORE because it was the only one left and it happened to be the display.

I got the whole tree, with about $15 of ornaments, for $5. She just wanted it gone. ;) So with the ornaments we already had for the Bub, we had plenty of ornaments for this big tree. I ended up getting a few more just for good measure. You know, just in case every inch wasn’t covered.

Because the tree is not in the best shape, I wanted to fill in the empty spots a bit. I got a couple of fun, fluffy garlands from Menard’s for about $4 each:

I have to tell you, I’ve NEVER had a  blue ornament. Isn’t that weird? I couldn’t pass up the blue ornaments at Menard’s though. They totally spoke to me this year.  :) The other sparkly ones were from the Deals store:

Another first? Colored lights! They are magical. I have absolutely fallen in love with them all over again. I was SO tempted to use them all over the house, but I like that they are just part of the “fun” tree!

More sparkle, in all of his favorites:

A few handmade with my stepdaughter when she was little, and of course, we can’t do anything without Mickey. That would be a travesty. Serious.

046 049

I am VERY proud of myself. I let the Bub put ornaments on, and I never moved them. Not ONE. So there is a plethora of them on the bottom left of the tree. And I’m OK with that:

Three candy canes on one branch? I’m OK. Really, I am. I’m not twitching at all anymore.

The choo choo theme started last year when I found a train at Goodwill for under the tree. We were so thrilled to find it so cheap, since we had been on the lookout for one. Then, this year my husband our son found one at Lowe’s that goes in and around the tree:

Could you die? Seriously.

I wanted to get a good shot of the tree in the dark, so I asked the Bub to move so I could take the picture. Doing what I ask is not his thing lately. (Hellooooo, THREE!)

For the first time ever, I was so glad he didn’t listen, because I got this shot:

Magic.

I think I love this Choo Choo Tree as much as he does.

I’m off to get some sleep so I can write out and mail Christmas New Year’s cards, do three consults, finish shopping, wrap every. single. gift., clean the house, and throw a Fiesta for 25 people -- all tomorrow.

Whoooeeeee!

  3. HA! You are the first person I've ever heard of who has that train - we have one that my mom got me before I had kids, and I always say I thought she got it at Lowe's. Here are last year http://harryjacksmom.blogspot.com/2008/12/id-catch-that-train-tomorrow-boys-tree.html and this http://harryjacksmom.blogspot.com/2009/11/sweet-gingerbread-men.html. GL getting it all done, and enjoying the fiesta :-)

  4. You are one very busy person!

My husband has a saying--"what's worth doing is worth over-doing". Sounds like you'd make him proud.

    Love your tree entirely.

  6. Awww, love the pic of your little one mesmerized. We used to put a train around the base of one of our trees. I didn't use it last year because the dog kept stepping on it. LOL Maybe I'll get it back out. I am trying to tell...is that a second track up midway? If so, how is it attached? Maybe it's just a reflection. I didn't see any mention of it in your description....maybe I'm just seeing stuff...it is late. ;-)
    Merry Christmas! Susan

  7. We have that Tree train! Got it at Home Depot. We'd been looking at getting Kiddo a train around the bottom of the tree but this is so much better. Here's my link to it - http://texasebeth.blogspot.com/2009/12/o-christmas-tree.html

  13. That looks so pretty and what a great shot that last one is! I'm glad I'm not the only one ~ I haven't mailed one Christmas card this year. I have them. I started writing them out. I noticed I didn't get too many either, so I guess I'm not alone.

  18. How fun! Having a kid tree is a must , especially if you are super picky about your "main" tree. My kids each got a mini-tree in their bedrooms from the dollar bins at Target, one is pink tinsel and one is blue. They have colored lights on them and my kids love to use them as their night lights all month long. We also have a small one in their playroom in the basement. All the extra tacky ones that they pick out go down there! LOL

  23. I love all of the color! You are right...colored lights are awesome. So many people shun them. I use them on several of my small trees. And I use blue lights on my vintage ornament tree. The others have white/clear. But the multi ones are fun! Love the playroom tree!

  29. What a wonderful, wonderful picture.

When our boys were little (and we had very little money), we had only one tree, but we didn't put presents under it until Christmas morning. Instead, we had a Lionel train that ran around the tree. We bought a new car every year. Oh, how the boys (including hubby) loved that train. Boys and trains just go together. The train didn't survive the several moves that we've made since then, but the memories did. :)

    Enjoy your fiesta!! Feliz Navidad!

  31. I have two little train enthusiasts that would likely plant themselves in front of that fun, festive, colorful little tree and stare in amazement for HOURS if it was a part of our Christmas decor. (How nice would that be!) Definitely something to think about for next year! Thanks for always inspiring me!
