Girls’ weekend

004

Well HELLO there! I’m back, I’m back! It was a whirlwind of a weekend, for sure. We had a BLAST in the city that never sleeps. I’ve told you before how much I adore NYC, and this trip was special because I brought two friends with me who are now in love with the city as well.

It is now my mission to make every single person I know a NYC lovah. :)

We were there for three days, which translates to about 300 pictures. I’ve seen it all a million times but I never tire of the sights.

It was HOT, but it was a beautiful, sunny weekend. Times Square was hopping Friday afternoon:

018

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square (to the left by the Bank of America and Kodak signs above). We used to stay there ALL the time – in my opinion it’s the best spot in the city for a tourist. We don’t stay as often anymore because the room rates have gone up so much – ours was $350 a night!

But divided by three, it was way affordable for a Times Square view!:

Geez, I am SUCH a goober.

That first night was the main reason for our trip – the last NKOTB concerts ever (at least that’s what they say now.):

242

There is something really special about going back in time like this – we felt it at the concert last summer and at this one as well. You are in space with thousands of women, all who grew up having so many of the same experience you did. And when you get together again 20 years later, there is such a wonderful feeling of camaraderie that is so sweet:

photo2

Of course, just like last year’s concert, we followed the instructions on our tickets and DIDN’T take in our cameras. WHY do we listen and follow rules? WHY?!

Um, every. single. person. had their cameras. We had our camera phones.

Translation – crapola pictures:

photo

Actually that one isn’t so bad. ;)

Radio City was a an absolutely fantastic venue – amazing! Even though our seats were closer last summer, this seemed more intimate. At one point Joe and Jon came up to the side we were at:

photo3

Of course I ran down there. :) I may or may not have been screaming. I will never tell.

Back in the day, Jon Knight was my fave – something about that tall dark and handsome – I married one of those. ;)

So I figured this was going to be the closest I would ever be to him. But I was WRONG my Squeezies!!

After the show, we went around the side of RCMH and found a gaggle of women and decided to see what we could find. There were many large men walking around with walkie talkies, and barricades up everywhere.

We waited around for a while and then were about to take off, but I had a FEELING. A white van pulled up, and all the sudden there’s SCREAMING and who walks out but Jordan, his son and JON.

This is the part where my eyelids flutter and hearts fly out. :)

The crowd rushed them, of course, and the bodyguards were SERIOUS. (I don’t blame them.) I pulled back a bit (I was about five feet from the van) and then my smarty little head was a thinkin’ – and I realized they would pull out and have to drive away, so I ran down the street about ten yards and waited.

I’m smart. :)

And as the van drove my way, the gaggle ‘o women came with it, but I was in the perfect spot to put my hand right on Jon’s window as they drove away.

And he LOOKED at me. And smiled. SQUEAL!!! :)

Let’s ignore the fact that there were women all around me, umkay? Whatev.

Did I mention, I didn’t have my camera?! Good Lord, when will I learn?

So I walked away a happy camper. I checked one off the bucket list folks.

The next day I took the girls to Ground Zero (more on that in a later post!), Little Italy, and Chinatown and the shopping commenced! HA!

There is NOTHING like the shopping in NYC – the variety of stores is one thing. The street vendors (especially in Chinatown) are another.

:) Those New Yorkers are funny.

The prices are great, and you can usually get them down even more if you try. Some of my favorite jewelry pieces are from NYC – they are the cheapest I own and they’ve lasted years.

I thought of you all as we walked down 6th Avenue and saw M&J Trimming. You’ve NEVER seen such a selection of buttons:

258 That was just one wall!

Nailhead trim:

260

Ribbon:

269

And trim:

264

Isn’t that insane?? It was GORGEOUS! :)

If I had only thought to bring my fabric swatches for the office redo, I would have had it made!!

Oh my goodness, we smooshed a LOT into three days – I can’t even begin to tell you all of it! Well, I could, but I got 14 hours of sleep in four days, so I need to get to bed. :)

We truly took in the sights and had a blast – our last night there, we were up till 5:30 a.m.:

251

That’s me at 5 a.m. See the sun coming up in the background? CRAZY!! (Notice the pic of Sean Hayes to the right? We saw that show last month and this time I came within feet of him as he left the theater that night!)

We weren’t even that tired – there’s something magical about New York City. It has my heart.

202

That’s the view from the Top of the Rock, all the way up there…

177

:) Sigh.

I love you New York!!

I am so glad to be home sweet home though – and looking forward to getting back into my crafty mojo with a fun item I got last week.

And I’ve got a little surprise for you tomorrow! Whoohoo! Stay tuned!

  8. I love living vicariously through you;) So wish I could have seen NKOTB at RCMH, but I did get the chance to see them up super close (plus a few hugs-squeal!!!) for the Seattle screening that they did in January of their dvd and I know just what you mean when you said you got one of your dreams fulfilled by seeing Jon;)

I should have told you to bring the camera, I did at both concerts (1st tour and summer tour) and of course they never checked. . . oh well at least you could concentrate on the show instead of taking pics/videos!

I want to go back to NYC!

  11. LOVE your NYC recap! What an awesome weekend! Seriously jealous about the NKOTB concert! That awesome pic of Joe and Jon coming up to your side...yeah, if I'd been there I *might* have almost hurdled you to get to Joe...but I would have apologized...a hundred times...after I screamed Joe's name at the top of my lungs and let the 13 year old bubble up from within. :-D
NICE pic! Love me some NKOTB!

  12. I'm totally with you on the NYC love. The first time I went, I went with a friend on a business tri. We stayed at The Carlisle, had a drink with celebs in the bar, shared an elevator with Steven King, sat in another bar with Jay Z, and took it many, many more sights. I don't think another trip will ever top that!!!

  16. I love your blog and your NYC adventures. I am heading there in a few days for my first time ever and bringing with me my two young kids (daughter 7 and son 5 ). Have you ever taken your kids there and if so any advice? We are only going for three nights but want to see as much as possible without going crazy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Beth

  20. I just did a post on NYC. I was there this past weekend too. But my take is on the different side of NYC, living there is MUCH different than going as a tourist. Is a wonderful place indeed, and I'm glad I married a Newyorker.

  21. Oh my goodness what fun! It looks like you had a blast, I haven't been back to New York since Christmas of 2004 when my older sister surprised me with tickets to go see the NYC ballet perforn the Nutcracker at the Lincoln center, thus starting my infatuation with the story. I LOVE IT! :-)

  23. Hub and I were there just last month (yep, during the bomb scare, lovely) and had a ball! I highly recommend The Belvedere hotel if you are looking for a new spot. Very cute boutique hotel in Times Square, uber clean, and charming staff.

  24. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that blue rose glass pendant. We went to China last November to adopt our son and those beautiful glass pendants were everywhere at the pearl and jade market. What sweet memories.

  34. Ahh, NYC - the perfect place for women to get together and act like girls! LOVE IT! RCMH is awesome - we saw 'Phantom' there and it rocked my socks.

Ground Zero museum was so touching, tears ran freely when we walked through. Can't wait to hear about it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. OH bless your heart I've never been but I've heard of the stores but now my wildest dreams are shown to me! I need to go there ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sounds like a wonderful time! I just informed my husband that a bunch of my girlfriends went to NKOTB concert and posted pictures and I am wondering if it is time to make up for the one that sold out when I was 13. I couldn't get tickets, we waited in line for 3 hours at a record store to learn that they weren't coming but we could still meet Johnny Page, poor guy he was so the pony at the horse show. No one was excited to meet him!!! We wanted NKOTB!! ; )
Love all the pictures, excitement and yes, I too need to not follow the rules like you I always learn later that no one else does either!

    ReplyDelete
  37. NYC has my heart too! I was just there the weekend before you!! I can't get enough of it! I love your blog and love you even more now that we share the NYC love! Thanks for sharing!!!

  38. Looks like it was a great weekend! (And Jonathan Knight was my favorite NKOTB member too! I had the doll as a kid!)

How do you get your pictures to have the rounded look? It looks neat.

  39. I'm really glad you had such a wonderful time. I used to love NYC too (but I think business trips have ruined the city for me now!) I love that you saw so many sights with your girls! That's the way I vacation too.

  47. I am definitely not-so-much a city girl, but it is fun to visit. I have mostly just been to NYC for hair shows, so I haven't gotten to do many of the touristy things. The millions of people , and those cab rides scare me a bit. Glad you had so much fun....totally jealous of You going to NKOTB concert and getting so close to Jon.

  48. Soooo glad you had fun. I can't believe that was supposed to be their last concert though!!! NOOOOOOO!!! LOL Enjoyed your pics

I am glad that you had such a great time. Sometimes it is fun to be a goober along with good friends (that's one thing that keeps us young at heart)!

  50. Your post made me smile. I have a 3 Musketeers candy bar that Donnie Wahlberg threw out of his tour bus at me and 100 other screaming junior high girls after a concert.

Looking back I realize that I completely risked my life because I didn't catch it so was stooped down trying to find it and could've easily been trampled in that hot mess of a crowd.

I might just still have that candy bar safely tucked in a zip lock bag somewhere... shhh, don't tell. ;)

  51. What fun!!! One thing I was looking for though is a picture of the Naked cowboy???? So I could say Squeal! Hee hee!!!

  55. Looks like a fun trip! I grew up on Long Island and NYC was not far away. Many wonderful memories of Broadway shows, dinner in the WTC and just walking around people watching. It has been many years since I have been back. I need that on my to do list.
