Introducing Peanut

Hello all! Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

It’s been a great one around here for more reasons than one. :)

I finally, FINALLY got the decrapification of the basement done. I mean, almost every single bit of it. There’s just a few minor things I want to go through, but the big stuff is DONE!

I even finished up going through the guest room closet, which has been on my list for about a year now.

The house feels like it may just float away it’s so light. :)

I was going to show you some of that massive accomplishment tonight, but then something came up.

This little guy:

We found him this weekend, and before we saw him, adding a dog to our family was the last thing on our minds. I mean, for a while I’ve been telling hubby I’d really like to get a dog for the Bub. But we’ve just been talking about it, here and there.

But lately, when I see a dog, something new has been pulling at my heart strings. It’s kinda been weirding me out -- I mean, we’re cat people. Always have been. We’ve both owned dogs in our life, but it’s been a long time for both of us.

But today, I picked up that shaking little guy and he cuddled his wet nose into the crook of my neck, and something in me just absolutely melted.

He cuddled into me, as if to say, please don’t let me go.

It was the same thing this one did the day I found him:

And it was hard for me to shake that feeling. I put him down. Walked away, went back, picked him up. He hung onto me again. Put him down again…walked away. And went back again. This time, I had tears in my eyes.

It was so incredibly hard to walk away from this pup. That last time I put him back down, trying so hard not to cry.

And after that, all I could think about was him. I couldn’t figure out what in the HECK was wrong with me. I had absolutely fallen deeply in love with that face. Hubby thought I was losing it. I thought I was losing it.

After making MANY phone calls to friends with dogs, doing a ton of research online and much discussion with the hubby…we brought him home:

Look at that SQUISHY face.

I can’t believe we own a DOG.  :)

The cat’s are adjusting amazingly well. He’s nuts about them. (For real!) So funny.

Peanut has made himself right at home:

IMG_3269

He ADORES my hubby. We adore him.

Now excuse me, as I head to bed extra early tonight. It could be a long one. Wish this new Momma a restful night. ;)

But seriously…isn’t he the sweetest thing you’ve EVER seen??

  3. He is simply adorable. You are making me want to get another puppy-- not that I need another with 2 miniature dachshunds and one baby. But he is SO CUTE.

    Thanks for sharing :) Congratulations!

  4. Oh my goodness, Peanut is absolutely adorable! What a great name too - so fitting. I'm also a cat person and we've been talking about getting a dog if we buy our plantation. We were thinking something bigger but after seeing Peanut, makes me want a cute little dog like that!

  7. There is nothing wrong with being a cat and a dog person! We are the reverse of you all, 3 dogs and 1 cat and they are all so good for your soul! Congratulations on your new addition!

  8. Awww is he a chihuahua??? We love our chihuahua! They are tough to train but she is an amazing piece of our family! I had to spend the night away from her one night and I was an absolute wreck!!! Her name is Lucy =)

  9. Congratulations!! Dogs are wonderful! And that is coming from a "cat person." Honey and I were solidly cat people for years, but then I got a hankering for a dog. I researched breeds for about two years, and when we moved to a house with a fenced yard I knew what I wanted. Our pit bull baby is now five (nearly six!) and gets along with our four cats splendidly (and everyone else she meets -- she's such a little lover!). And Honey, who was an avowed dog-disliker is now wrapped around Lotus's finger. Trust me, a home with a dog and a few cats is the happiest place on earth. Congratulations once again!

  11. Awwww! Peanut looks like a little sweetheart! So glad you rescued him and you know what? Rescued dogs are the best dogs ever! It's like they know you saved them and they are forever grateful! I have a Boxer that we rescued and she is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever owned. I hope you and your family really enjoy Peanut!

  12. Oh, Sarah. The Nemesis was sooo cute when we picked him up too. And then it began. I will admit that through ALL the complaints you're gonna have (lack of sleep being one of them), you will have so much fun with him! Congratulations! He's a cutie!

  13. What a cutey! I can't imagine not having a pet around. I am allergic to cats but we do have a barn cat but he only comes around when he can't find something to eat. I would so love to have a cat but I can't even touch Mr. T without having an allergic reaction. So I am more of a dog person, we lost one of our dogs last year which was a real heart break. We have been debating on getting a house dog (our dogs are outside dogs). Seeing your peanut really makes me want to go ahead and get one. We will see. I hope you have lots of fun with your newest member of the family. I know your cats are just going to love peanut!

  26. Congrats on the new family member! He sure is a cutie. How is the Bub liking him?

    ReplyDelete
  27. So precious! I'd love to see your tips for combatting the fur of your pets! :) Our home is beautifully decorated and always has a film of fur on it from 1 cat and 1 dog. (but it's mostly the cat who does it!)

    ReplyDelete
  28. So fabulous! Congrats for the adding the new addition to your family, he is a doll. Enjoy the baby.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh goodness. You're gonna love being a dog owner again. If he can't sleep well through the night try wrapping a ticking clock in a blanket and put it in his bed. It'll remind him of being cuddled up with momma.
    Good luck

  32. Congrats sarah! Having a dog of your own is so special.
You can already tell how comfortable he is with you...in the first few pictures you can tell he's worried (ears pulled back) and in the last pic he is clearly at peace!
Congrats...I hope your family enjoys your little peanut!

  33. You are so nice to give this dog a home. He deserves a good home and to be loved. You did the right thing, and I'm sure your Bub will just love him. He looks so sweet.

  37. OMG, he is adorable!!!! I want to squish that cute little face. We are dedicated dog people (we have 3 small dogs) and I can't imagine life without them. It's nice to come home (even if we've only been gone 20-30 minutes) and get welcomed like we're rock stars. :)
Having a new puppy is a bit like having a newborn baby. It can be exhausting. Enjoy those sweet little puppy breath kisses (I LOVE puppy breath kisses!)

    ReplyDelete
  38. What a doll! You may have your moments, as with any new baby, but you won't regret adding this new member of the family. Sounds as if you've already bonded!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Aw, I love dogs and I'm so glad you have one now! They just bring so much innocence and happiness to a home. Where did you get him? I applaud you for adopting. So many great animals need homes!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Peanut is so sweet! Congrats!

I have 2 short hair pups and they're the loves of my life. I lost my other pup in Oct 2009, his name was Peanut too :-(

Have fun and remember, it will all be worth it. You don't have to know what I'm talking about even, just remember that phrase. Peanut is worth it :-)

  44. Looks just like our chihuahua. I know that feeling. My 18 yr old Yorkie finally passed. Thought it wouldbe a long time. 3 weeks later, coincidence put a tiny chihuahua in my hands. I was hooked. And so was she. Spends as many waking moments as possible near me.

  48. Congrats and consider yourself officially converted! We had a dog for 12 years before she had to be put down and there is still a hole in my heart. Someday we'll have another- they just bring such love and joy to your life! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. He really is seriously cute!! Congrats on your new family member. And just so you know....I am a Licensed vet tech, so if you ever have any questions...feel free to ask away! =)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Too cute!!! So we are cat people too. And my philosophy on that is, if it poops in a box - it is ok by me. So even though I have owned a dog I have been very reluctant to talk about getting another one. Well this weekend when my mom was in she said, "You know you'll get a dog for the lil man someday." I protested - but now that I have seen your post - I realize it will probably happen! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  51. This seriously made my morning!! Congratulations to you all. (I have been praying for Peanut) The next year or so will be hard, but don't give up on him. It will be so worth it in the end. Two words for you all. Train. Him. =) The best thing you can do for him and for your family!

We love our dog so much, even with all his quirks. We can't imagine life with out him.

    ReplyDelete
  52. beautiful little face!..i'm a cat person too..but we have both...and now...i always thought i would always have a cat..and a dog...well...but now this is our second dog...and i think you can be equally 'cat and dog' people!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yo Quiero Taco Bell....?? So stinkin sweet...love him!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know how you feel! I did the same thing at Christmas and we came home with Ellie-Mae! Peanut is ADORABLE!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Our son has been wanting a dog for some time now. I've started to get the urge too. We've been looking at the local Adoption weekends but haven't found the right one yet.

    ReplyDelete
  56. LOVE him!! Our dog is named Peanut!! Dogs add so much to your life. They always love you,no matter what :))

    ReplyDelete
  57. Both of my dogs lived to be 16 years old. I now have a new home with white carpeting in the music room and first floor master. Would I be crazy enough to get a dog? After seeing this little guy, YOU BET!
    Enjoy your new baby!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Awww, he is definitely the cutest thing. You had tears in MY eyes. Glad you brought him home to make everyone happy.

    ReplyDelete
  59. How cute are your pets! I myself have 3 cats and 1 dog - I love animals to death!

    ReplyDelete
  60. SOOOO Cute! We are cat people too, but I am not sure that I could have passed that face up! Congrats on your new addition!

    ReplyDelete
  61. congrats on your new family member! We are dog and cat people. They each wrapped themselves around my heart, one at a time, just when I would say "NO PETS" and then it was ME acting like a child when I saw them and just had to bring them home. Now it's my hubby telling me NO MORE ANIMALS, lol!!
I'm a stay at home mom, and it's nice that they let me know when someone pulls into the drive or comes knocking at the door (and the other person knows there are big dogs here, too! you just can't be too careful these days, ya know!) They are also very protective of my kids. When I am tickle fighting with my kids, the dogs cannot stand it and have to get between us!

Like the previous post, it's great when you come home and get the rock star treatment! But I highly recommend crate training or my house would become one huge chew toy while I'm gone or sleeping at night.
    Good luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pretty sure I would never be able to leave something like him just sitting there either! Pretty cute!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm a cat person, but my daughter has been begging for a dog. I might have to cave one of these days, but I'm holding off till she is old enough to have more of the responsibility that comes with owning a dog. Peanut is adorable! Is it a chihuahua? How is he doing with the cats? I'm sure he is smaller than they are so he's probably more scared of them then they are of him. Congrats and good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Love! I don't qualify myself as a dog or a cat person. I love them all. We have a white dog and a black cat. We like diversity!

My first meeting with my dog was a bit like yours. I had gone to the mall to get a haircut and afterwards I stopped at the pet store. There she was, all cute and tiny little bichon frisé that she was. I picked her up and she just mellowed in my arms. Instant bond! I could not let her go. That was 12 years ago. I call her my most expensive haircut ever!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Peanut is adorable and it looks as if he's made himself at home and wiggled into your hearts. Over the course of my lifetime, I've had four dogs. Each one gave me more love and joy than I'm sure I gave them. I'm so happy for you, your family and Peanut.

    Monique

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hurray! Congrats, Sarah! The way he is closing his eyes in that last shot? That is pure bliss, right there. You can tell he is so happy!

I can't have a cat b/c T is severely allergic, so I have two small dogs instead. I love cats, but dogs are wonderful b/c they really crave your attention and affection. :) You're going to love it!

    Is he a Chihuahua mix?

    ReplyDelete
  67. A true happy tails story if I've ever heard one. Congrats on the fur baby!! He is such a cutie. In a world where so many people just don't care and see them as dispensable it's great to see all the animal lover comments here. Good luck with him and look forward to "Peanut Posts"!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. He's adorable! I love the irony: the word "decrapification" in a post about adopting a dog.

(Unless you've got a poo free dog. In that case, hook a sista up.)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh, sooo cute! We are dog people and have had as many as 4 at one time. We lost 3 over the past 3 years due to health problems related to old age so we got down to 1. She is 14 years old and is now deaf but of course we still love her dearly. Just before Christmas we learned of a chocolate lab that needed a forever home and we bit the bullet and brought her home with us. She is our 1st large active (and I mean active) dog. She has adjusted well although we are still training (ourselves and her). Have fun with your new little guy!

    ReplyDelete
  70. He is adorable. Good for you for listening to your heart...I think he was meant for your family!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm so glad you got him!!! I have 2 cats and I'm dying to get a dog, I just love animals and I love seeing when animals get a good home!! Congratulations!!!

  72. Did you "find" him on the streets or did you "find" him in a shelter?? My sister has the same kind of dog...also named peanut!! real cutie!! How old is he??

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh he is sooo very cute. That really is a sweet face!!!
You will have lots of fun with him and the cats I am sure. We are a dog family. I would love to get a cat but my husband says it is either him or a cat....
Some days I am just this close to getting a cat :-)..
didn't realize it would be that easy getting rid of him! HAHAHAHA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Awww what a sweetheart! I want a dog so bad, but hubby says no, for now :( We have 5 cats, 2 birds and fish, so we have plenty of animals.... but look at that adorable face, how could you say no to that???

    ReplyDelete
  75. So adorable! I want another pup soooooooo bad. Hubs is to practical...boo! By the way...decrapification is my new favorite word!

I'm so happy for all of your family. Rescuing an animal in need is heart warming and it's special. I help out in bulldog rescue and it's nice to give a great life to a dog. CONGRATS!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. He's so cute!!! Did you get him from rescue group?

My little Teddy "found" me back in November, but I did not. want. a dog. Flash forward to the end of January. Teddy was still at the rescue group, and I knew he was supposed to be mine. Now I'm so in love and I can't believe I waited so long to bring him home!

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOOK at that face! Welcome to the fabulous world of being obsessed with your pup. I rescued my daschund two years ago and I look over at his face sometimes and think, omg, it NEVER gets old, you just melt me! Enjoy!!!! Great decision!
Hope he and the cat bond...that's the cutest...

  81. SO CUTE!!! I'm glad your cats seem to be adjusting well. I think mine might eat him alive.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Awww, you won't be sorry!!! I did the same thing with my poor little "near death" puppy....best thing I ever did on a whim!!!! (although mine started out as big as yours but grew to 60 pounds and took over my couch)....might want to keep your old couch after all!!! Amy

  83. Such a cutie! The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. We ended up with a fluffball yorkie/shih tzu mix that is just the sweetest thing. And of course she ADORES my husband, who tried to harden his heart against a dog, but whispers in her ear how much he loves her while she licks his chin :). Enjoy your new family member!

    ReplyDelete
  84. He looks adorable! And I would have done the same thing...:) He looks like a chi-hu-ee-hu-ee...lol...or a min pin...possibly a mix of both. I just got a min pin and he is absoulutely the apple of my eye (shhhh...don't tell my kids...lol)

He's too cute for words. Hopefully you got some sleep. Keep us posted on how it goes.

  89. Your life will never be the same...in a good way! Enjoy him - just remember, puppyhood doesn't last forever, they can be trained and it's all worth it. (kinda like with kids!) He is super cute. When I had that feeling, the "He's the dog of all dogs" feeling, it lasted for fifteen wonderful years!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yay! I saw your post on FB and thought you'd go back for him. He's too cute!

I know exactly what you mean about being cat people. I was always a cat person. Then about 5 years ago I got a puppy. It was my first dog since I was a child. Now I can't imagine not having a dog in our home.

    Enjoy your little Peanut!

  97. oh my...peanut is precious! you will LOVE having a dog in the family!! nothing compares to their unconditional love! :)

    ReplyDelete
  98. What a SWEETIE! We are new dog owners too - just adopted a huge, sweet black lab/Newfoundland rescue dog in December. The kids had been wanting a dog for ages, and we promised we would get one once we moved. I was kind of dreading the extra work, but he is the easiest member of the family to please! To think that he was within hours of being euthanized when he was rescued just breaks my heart. We adore him, and I think the feeling is mutual. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. How did your first night go??

    He is SO CUTE!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. He is a doll!!! So funny that you got him this way. We are cat people too and I never thought I'd want a dog and lately I've been having urges and have fallen in love with some at the Human Society. It wouldn't surprise me if we did one of these days. Of course we might end up with another cat too, who knows! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  101. Congrautlations! There is nothing like saving a life, he is happier than you could imagine. Unconditional love!

    ReplyDelete
  102. He's adorable! While reading your post I was wondering how your cats would do with the new addition - it makes me melt that Peanut loves them!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Rule #1 concerning adoptable animals. . . DON'T PICK THEM UP! Once you do they are able to worm their way into your heart and before you know it your furry family has grown. That's how we ended up with our last two critters (one dog & one cat).

Congrats on your newest family member. :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I love it! I am a dog person and I love that face SO adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  105. What a precious baby!! Looks just like our Lindsay pup when we rescued her!

It's hard work with a new one, so don't give up. The reward is SO MUCH BETTER.

And when you rescue a dog.....there is such a deep gratitude and love they have for you, because you SAVED them. They KNOW what it is to be alone and have no one care.

    Congratulations! Enjoy your baby!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Your story about how you fell in love with him was just adorable. I'm SO thrilled you got a dog, mainly because I'm a dog-lover and we just adopted one a few months ago. There's no feeling like it.

    That face, that face
    That fabulous face
    It's clear I must beware
I'm certain if I fall in love
    I'm lost without a trace
    But it's worth it...
    For that face

  113. Absolutely adorable! I have a soft spot for Chihuahuas! I have a min pin/chihuahua mix and she is red and her face looks just like his (well minus the dark beard). They are lovers, snugglers and blanket stealers =) however I wouldnt trade her for anything!!!

  117. Our dog found us almost 6 months ago, poor thing had been on the streets a while and showed up at my mom's back boor. He has made such a difference in our lives. We don't have kids, but he is our baby.

  119. Congrats on the supa-cute puppy!! I'm a cat person who has been transformed into a cat/dog person - we have 2 of each and can't imagine our lives w/o any of them! In fact, we just had our family pics taken yesterday and we just had to include our "boys" (our black labs, Duke & Cash).

  120. Peanut is so cute! I'm glad you took him home. I know how you feel about just thinking of having a dog. We wanted one and then we didn't want one, but we got one. We kind of adopted her. When our son had their baby, their dog Brownie was so jealous. We took Brownie in and she is so much happier here with us. She had to stay in her kennel at their house, and hardly was able to get out. We have her now for over a year, and she is spoiled rotten. We love her, and couldn't imagine living without her. It looks like Peanut is adapting very well and loves all of you for a loving home.

  121. Total win/win situation for Peanut and his new family.

You all are lucky you found each other.

I'm a dog person myself. And both my dogs and all three of my cats will tell you the same thing. ;)

  133. Your new "baby" is SO cute! We have been talking lately about getting another dog. I have JUST gotten to the point of having my heart healed enough to be able to think about it. We had to put our "puppy" to sleep when our daughter was two months old. It was a rough enough time in our lives, and then to have to do that almost sucked the life right out of me. It has been a long, hard road, and still tears over it, but now, finally I'm there, I think. We are considering adopting a Greyhound.

  141. Chihuahuas are THE best dogs you can have !! Our little lady is 11 years old and knows the names of all her toys and will go get the correct one every time. Our first Chihuahua was 17 when she passed away from heart failure.
Peanuts will love having a fleece throw to cover up with as all of them seem to be cold natured.

  143. Peanut is very cute. My best friend has a "Taco Terrier" that is what i heard the chihuahua/terrier cross was called. That little dog threw itself in front of her husband's truck. He had to throw on the brakes to keep from running her over. She stood there frozen in his lights. He got out and picked her up. She had a collar but lots of fleas and she was skinny so he decided she obviously didn't have a good home if she had one.

So home she went with him. She sticks to him like glue. They named her Willie. She loves their cat too and their labrador. But she loves Tim the most....he is the one she cries for. She knows he's the one that rescued her.

Congratulations on your new family member!

  144. Daawwwwww! That has got to be the cutest puppy I have ever seen! I just want to kiss his little face! No wonder you couldn't leave him. He is so darned CUTE!

Your cat is absolutely gorgeous. Glad to hear the animals are all getting along. I've got 3 cats, one of them is still a kitten (she turns 1 year old in a couple weeks) and my big cat STILL has not acclimated to having her around, but she is the queen and has always been spoiled and a colosal PITA!

Can't wait to see pics of your beautiful baby boy with his new pup. There is nothing cuter than a little child with his or her pet!

    Best,

    Kimberly

My husband and I are also very much "cat people," but I recently came across this little Chihuahua at the shelter where I volunteer. I couldn't say no to him! This is his story, if you are interested - http://nixon-notes.blogspot.com/2011/01/welcome-leroy.html We just love him!

I get more attached to my 10 year every day.
