October Before and After

Well hello! I’m just gonna start this out right – it’s my birthday week. Yep. ALLLLL week. That’s how I roll.

Also, I’ve been thinking for a while and I’m considering changing this party to once every two or three months instead of once a month. Thoughts? The linky parties just aren’t as popular as they used to be. My favorite part is that some of you get to share and find each other, and I love the highlighting blogs during this recap every month – so I would continue to do that in one way or another. I’m just thinking the linky is dying a slow death. ;) Let me know your thoughts.

OK, before we link up this month it’s time to share a few of the projects from last month! I picked some big ones and some simpler ones – all awesome! First up is Delia’s kitchen redo:

gel stain on cabinets

And when she says budget she means it – this was done with $65! She used gel stain to transform her cabinets and I am in awe! It’s a modern look with more contrast and I think she did a great job. It looks like a different room, for less than $100!

I have mud rooms on the brain (I’m starting ours, finally!!) so I was salivating over Brit’s beautiful built ins:

entry-storage-bench-hooks-basket-bins1

Seriously – this gets me so excited!

By the way, love Brit’s amazing moldings around the window, right? Right. Cristina showed us how to do just this:

easy way to install window trim

There are days I hold myself back from trying to rip out a window sill on a whim to do just this – trying to be patient. There’s a long list ahead of it. :)

Here’s an easier project for you – Rachel did a super cute redo on a dollar spot trash can:

polka dot trash can

Why didn’t I think of that? That’s what blogs are for. So stinking cute.

Laura’s beautiful, light bedroom redo (mostly just with paint) had me swooning:

light bedroom Just lovely!

My friend Beckie made over her son’s room and made it a SUPER fun place to be:

hanging beds

Aren’t those beds the coolest? Seriously, so fun!!

Tracy took a $10 desk and transformed it with milk paint:

I am so digging that green lately – all greens actually. The top on that dresser turned out beautifully too, make sure to check that out.

And finally, another easy project – I love this one. Lisa made a plastic trophy look like an old vintage one:

trophy redo

I couldn’t believe the difference! You can find these shiny trophies everywhere too – I see them all over thrift stores. Go here to see her tutorial!

OK, now it’s time to link up again! I can’t even believe it’s October people! If you’d like to be considered for the recap next month I would love a link back or you can use my cute button:

OK, have fun and link it up!

  38. Hi. I don't often comment here, not because I don't like your blog but because you get TONS of comments all the time and by the time I get here I'm like number 1,427 or something like that. That being said, I have to tell you that personally, I do not think that linky parties are getting less popular. There is just a proliferation of these types of blogs! Tons and tons and tons of them. My advice would be to continue to host your linky parties because the top will always attract the most people looking for an audience of their own particular blog, or just to share their particular project(s) with a wider audience. You host one of the top blogs and I don't see that changing any time soon, so please don't drop back unless you have a press of other things that you need to cut back your time on your blog. You know, blogs come and blogs go. Longevity counts. Lots of people start out strong with a bang and do everything they can to attract readers and followers, but they run out of steam in 24 months or less. So hang tight and keep doing what you do so well. Me, I'm just a little poopnoodle blog and I'm not looking for fame or fortune, just want to share on occasion when someone accidentally stumbles across me or, at places like your link parties, sees one of my rare posts (I don't do it very often), and decides to visit. That's always a treat. Think of us small potatoes people out here, and please maintain your linky party :)

  39. I don't link up as much as I used to. But I always just blame it on life. Even when I'm not linking up to your party, I love seeing your monthly features.
My "after" isn't done yet, but I linked up Phase 12 of our 100% DIY kitchen gut and remodel. We started in June when we discovered a major leak in our drain pipe in the wall. It had been going on for a long time before the tell-tale sign of our floors bubbling up and seeping water clued us in. Homeowner's insurance gave us the finger, hence the DIY. No money to pay for the work to be done. So we started gutting the last week of June and have been at it every weekend since. With three kids. No kitchen still. Did I mention the three kids? Kill me now.

  40. Happy birthday!!! This is my favorite linky party.. Seriously. Befores and Afters are the BEST posts! I would be bummed to only get to read them 3-4x a year! THREE TIMES A YEAR ISN'T ENOUGH!! :)

  42. Happy birthday week! Why do you think link parties are dying - you have 320+ entries! :)

Yours is established - I have to say it's hard to get people to link up to my still new weekly "Thrifty and Vintage Finds" link party. But I keep plugging along because I love that post and I hope that more people will find it and link up eventually.

Love your blog and I hope to get just a fifth of your entries on my party :)

  47. I am surprised to see you write that you feel that linkies are dying. I don't think so at all. I link up to things on a daily basis, and for new bloggers, it is a main source of getting traffic to a blog. I think you have a very successful party, don't do away with it!
