January before and after!

Hey there!! Are you stuck inside like us today? I know so much of the country has had this horrible weather – we got about 12 inches of snow yesterday, which isn’t really that bad, but the temps are currently –12 and dropping. I don’t remember weather this cold in Indiana!

Anyway, the kiddo is home from school still and probably will be tomorrow too I’m guessing. I prepared for being snowed in by stocking up on supplies last week – I got SO much done in the mud room yesterday and I can’t wait to show you!

But today we kick off January with the first before and after link up of the year! Are you ready? Got any organizing before and afters? I’m all over that right now!

Here’s a few of my favorites from last month! Tasha shows how to paint linoleum floors (yes, I said paint):

painting linoleum floors

Isn’t that fun? I would never have thought that would work but they look awesome. Have you ever tried pulling up linoleum? I have. (Not fun.) So this a great option if you want a different look!

Vel completed her son’s room and I love how it turned out! But that little reading nook is my favorite part, of course:

boys room blue stripe

Ahh, nooks. I love them. That blue stripe around the room is awesome too, don’t you think?

Jennifer found some GORGEOUS chairs at TJ Maxx and gave them a little redo to make them work better for her space:

round back dining chairs Seriously, why don’t I find things like this at TJ Maxx?? Those are stunning. And she went to another location to find two more – that never happens!

Beth had a spot that was gathering shoes near the door and I think her solution looks so good! You would never know this little Target cabinet is really a mud room, right?:

cabinet to hold shoesShe’s able to keep the shoes and backpacks hidden away inside the cabinets. Brilliant.

Kristin’s stone fireplace underwent a big redo, and my favorite part is the added marble tiles around the firebox:

They just tiled right over the stone that was there – I would never even think you could do that.

I totally LOVED Pam’s stenciled walls in her bedroom redo:

gold stencil on walls

And she did them in gold – love it! That bench is amazing too, seriously.

Anu took some lights from Target (I love that they are carrying these now!) and a simple bracket from Ikea to make an industrial wall sconce:

diy cage light sconce

This would be a great way to make just about any hanging light into a sconce on the wall.

Now it’s time to see what you’ve got for this month! If you’d like to be considered for a feature next time, please link back to TDC in your post or use this button by copying and pasting the link into your post:

Here you go! I’ll be back tomorrow with progress in the mud room!

  1. Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for featuring my TJ Maxx chair makeover! You really do have to be in the right place at the right time to find those treasures, and it helps to have friends who will text you a photo and say "you need these!" :) So happy to see Pam's gorgeous bedroom makeover and Kristin's elegant fireplace here too, and I'm off to check out your other great features. Happy New Year, anxious to see what you have in store for us!

  4. We are snowed in, too, but only with 1 inch :) But that's how we roll here in TN. We do have ice, too, so that's the real issue! Enjoy your day & stay warm!

  6. Hi Sarah! I hope I don't sound like a creepy stalker for saying this, but it has been kind of a dream of mine to be featured on your blog, so THANK YOU {time a million} for featuring my painted linoleum floors! You have helped get my new year off to a great start! Can't wait to see what all you have in store for us this year!!! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the mudroom {loving the color scheme and that RUG!} and the rest of your doors going black. That is something I hope to tackle myself this year! Thanks again!!!!

  8. We have the cold weather hitting us today and tomorrow as well. I don't think I have ever been in temps this cold, of course I was raised in Arizona...so that could be why! lol! Try to enjoy the time with the kiddos. Thanks so much for hosting!

  9. Great projects featured!! About 2/3's of the country is being hit right now with the weird weather. It is about -50F here on the western edge of WI. Kids first snow day. One more they are allowed before tacking onto the end of the year. We have a whole lot of winter left, and if anything like last year, there will still be snow in May. Who would think living up here, they would only allow 2 snow days per school year?? Cheap district. LOL I can say I have seen it this cold before. But it has been a long time... since 1996.

  18. Sarah! This is so marvelous! This is the perfect read for me today. I so much like Pam’s stenciled walls. It brings out your creativity with this kind of idea to your wall designs. BTW right now I'm living in Asia and enjoying these beautiful people and beautiful houses in the Philippines . I am enjoying the weather here right now. Take care Sarah, I heard in the news that it will be really cold out there.
