I’ll scratch your back…

Hello all! How are you on this beautiful (chilly!) day? I’ve noticed our plants are taking FOREVER to bloom this year – have you? I’m not surprised but I didn’t realize how late until I looked back at an old post from a couple years back. One of my favorite flowering bushes was in full bloom at the end of March -- it’s just now starting up in late April/early May this year. It’s going to be a short season!

Anyway, I’m on the look out for a couple things and I thought who better to ask for help than all of you? You guys are so helpful when I mention something that I’m looking for. But first I thought I would share some info on a couple things I get asked about a TON, a lot lately in particular.

The first is our family room rug:

family room tan walls

I got it last year and still love it. It’s a 9 by 12 and I got it from HomeGoods. Many have asked for a brand name and when we laid it down I couldn’t find a tag on the back. But I’m a dummy. The brand name is stamped around the edge of the rug. So…the rug is a Broyhill rug, but I can’t find it anywhere online! I don’t have a specific name for the actual design.

When I looked at Broyhill rugs online they didn’t have a lot of this more transitional/contemporary design – so I’m stumped.

Because I couldn’t find it I did some online shopping for you and these are similar:

(source)

I almost got that one for our master bedroom. It looks so plush in the close up photos.

I’ve purchased a couple rugs from Rugs USA and been really happy with the quality. Very pleased really. They’re running a Mother’s Day sale right now, but they do a couple huge sales a year and I wait for those to buy.

I liked the design on this one as well:

And this used to be in our family room – I still love it! It was just a bit too graphic and too small for the space:

Those are great options if you’re looking for a similar design. I saw a rug very similar to mine at HomeGoods a couple weeks ago, so there’s still a chance you may get one near you.

Also, I get asked about my starburst mirror over the mantel all the time and I KNOW! I love it too:

starburst mirror fireplace

That’s another HG find years back and I have looked for a name on it and there's nothing. Usually I’ll find the same design on subsequent trips in there but I’ve never seen this one again. I always have my eye out!

I’ve even looked online for a similar look and can’t find one. I did love these though:

pier 1 starburst mirror

That one is from Pier 1 and I really love it.

This one is Wayfair and they have a darker version as well:

I love it in the gold finish though.

OK, now I need your help! So a couple months back we had our first toilet issue in the powder room. Of course the first time in ten years happens after we put the hardwoods in, but I wouldn’t have put them in if I wasn’t sure they would hold up:

white planked walls

They did – it was quite impressive. But the rug that was in there wasn’t spared – I thought about dry cleaning it but does that disinfect it? I honestly don’t know. Because it was small I threw it in the washer on gentle, which wasn’t smart. The rug actually came out pretty decent but the backing was all jacked up. It was a MESS.

So I had to throw it out and I’m so bummed. I got it at Target a few years back and from what I can tell they don’t carry it online anymore. If any of you see it or know of one will you let me know?:

red blue target rug

The colors in it are PERFECT. Right now we’re just going without one and it’s fine, but I do love that rug and would love to replace it.

Also, you got a peek of this chair earlier this week, but this was another HG find last year:

dark blue chair with nail head

I may as well title this the HomeGoods post.

Someone asked about the quality of HomeGoods furniture the other day and I’ve been pleased so far. All I have from there are a few chairs and smaller things like benches. Most of the items are brand names that don’t quite meet the inspection process, from what I can tell. Usually I can find something that is just slightly off with the items, sometimes nothing at all.

Anyway, I’m hoping to find one more of this chair. I was considering it for the dining room/library set up but I doubt three more of this exact chair will ever happen. So now I’m thinking I’d like to have two in our living room. It’s surprisingly comfortable and I love the low profile of it.

And the nail head accents, of course. :)

The placemat pillow is my own. :)

There’s no marking of any kind on this chair either, so if you’ve seen it I would love to know! I would love you forever!

I’ll keep my eye out for my items and let you know if I see them too. If there are other items in our home you are curious about, let me know in the comments and I’ll give you resources or brand names.

  1. I went looking online for that rug you got at Target for your bathroom shortly after you originally posted a photo of it. I couldn't find it anywhere and was disappointed since I too want one. I'll keep looking though. never ever ever give up, right?

  2. I may have missed this in a post somewhere, but I was wondering about your family room curtains. We have a similar color pallette for our homes and I'm looking for white curtains with a light/small design (exactly like that ones you have), but cannot find anything anywhere! Pottery barn has some currently, but I like yours better. :)

  4. I think that rug is made by Safavieh. I found a similar one at RugStudio. Says they are currently out of stock but at least you have a potential replacement! Hope that helps!

  6. Timely post! Just yesterday I saw the same Broyhill rug in a coffee color in Homegoods! 9x12, great price. I was so close to getting it for my MBR but was indecisive (as usual) on the color!

  7. I haven't found that exact rug, but here are a couple of very close options:

  8. I've bought a similar rug to your living room one for my daughter's room at Target: http://www.target.com/p/maples-fretwork-area-rug/-/A-14318370/?force-full-site=1

For the price, the quality is really good. It's a lot softer than the cheap rugs as places like Walmart.

  9. Have you thought about a striped Dash and Albert rug for the powder room? I bought one for my guest bath and even bought a red one for Christmas/winter. They do wash up and with a rug pad underneath, they've stayed put. I think one would tie in with the oar.

    1. Love Dash and Albert! Great suggestion Tara G. Yes, the cotton ones wash up well and the smaller sizes fit easily into the washer (I have front load). The color choices would be amazing. They do flip for double wear if needed. I wouldn't bother with the indoor/outdoor. Easier just to get the cotton and throw in the wash. Not the plush softness but the selection is great.

  10. Try Rugs HQ online. I have a rug that is a close match thati ordered from there and have been very pleased.

  11. I LOVE the rug in your living room...I'm looking for something similar. We have hardwood throughout our entire house (except our master bedroom) and I REALLY need some area rugs to warm it up. However you know that takes money......and we need grass seed before area rugs....or so my husband claims ;)

  12. When does Rugs USA run their "huge sales" typically? I have my eye on a rug but haven't pulled the trigger for fear that two weeks from now a better price will pop up!

  13. I had that exact same Target rug you have in your bathroom in my kitchen. It didn't survive well in there. :( Buuut, last time I was in Target they still had the small version of it. I didn't see the longer version you had. I can look next time I go?

  14. On your next trip to IKEA, you must go to Bargains and Buyouts near Cincinnati. It is AMAZING!

  15. Perfect timing as I had the same Target rug in my kitchen too and it got ruined when I washed it as well! I have been looking everywhere for it…I hope someone finds something really close, it really was the perfect combo of colors.

  16. Just happened upon this rug in "ivory" in the Grandin Road catalog that came in my mail today, not a runner but colors might be perfect? http://www.grandinroad.com/tibetan-floral-leaf-indoor-rug/408535

Same color scheme as yours. But the price? Youch!

  18. If you like online shopping, Joss and Main is an awesome site! They always have great deals on rugs and accessories, sometimes it can be a little overpriced but most of the time it is not!

  19. Just wondering if you know the names/maker of the paint that's on the walls. I love that shade of gold/tan and that taupe/gray...

  20. Just bought the same vanity/sink combo you have in your basement (I think?). We were surprised the small vanity could support the large sink, then noticed later the vanity actually had cracks in the wood in the front. We haven't installed it yet and will return it. So my question is, is your sink also attached to the wall for additional support? We would like to get the same one (great size for our space), but want to know if the vanity will be sturdy enough. Thanks for any help!! I sure love your blog and the personality you show!

  21. I have the Pier 1 mirror and LOVE it! It replaced a big bulky heavy copper mirror from PB over my mantle and it feels so much more open and light now! I'm surprised I haven't seen it in more blogger homes and it's at such a great price point!

  23. That particular rug design is called a "lattice" print. It's been a very popular rug design carried by many large vendors such as Loloi, Tayse, & Dalyn Rugs. If readers search by lattice prints they should yield some positive results when shopping various rug sites as well! :-)

  24. This is the closest I could find of your rug. Not perfect match....yours is better color-wise! But Lowes had some options....the bottom has similar rugs to it.

  25. I love the Frog Tape in shapes but can't seem to find it anywhere. I've looked at all the places in stores where all the other tapes are found but no luck, I can find duct tape in every color or design but no shaped ones. Could you give me a few ideas as to where I can find it.

  26. Sarah, yesterday I was at a garage sale and they had TWO of your bathroom rugs (the exact same one) and I would have bought one for you... but it was really dirty. I thought of taking it home and washing it but it sounds like they don't do too well in the wash!

  27. I know it's apparently too late, but you can often repair a rug backing - they make liquid rug backing that you paint on after you've carefully picked off all the dying previous backing. We've done this successfully a couple of times with favorite throw rugs.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I bought a very similar rug for $30, although not at Target, and first gentle wash in, the backing was destroyed. It came apart at the seams and the backing seemed to shrink too small to sew back onto its fluffy front. I can't imagine what would have happened if I'd thrown it in the dryer! It now lies under the litter box. Very sad stuff.

  29. If it's not too late, the Edna rug in ivory at Wayfair looks really close:
