DIY industrial bathroom sign

April 05, 2018

I just finished up a simple little bathroom sign project I wanted to show you. I made it work with stuff I had around the garage and it turned out pretty cute!

You may remember the brass signs I had on the bathroom door at the old house:

I knew I would miss my cute little signs, so I visited the same shop years later and they had one set in stock! I couldn't believe my luck. :)

But when we got in the new house I just couldn't bear putting holes in the new doors. 😬 And the backs aren't flush so I couldn't use command strips or anything like that.

So I let them sit in storage for awhile before I came across them the other day and figured out an easy fix to display them. I found a piece of scrap wood (this is why I keep so many scraps!) and cut it down a bit:

We don't have any black paint so I used chalkboard paint -- turned out great.

A couple coats on the bare wood were all I needed. I was aiming for quick and easy for this project!

I grabbed some scrap lattice wood (I've shown you a few of the many ways I've used this trim) and stained it in Provincial -- my go to stain in this house. Then I nailed them on around the wood to make a frame:

I had to touch up the cut ends of the wood with stain because I didn't miter the cuts:

And it turned out super cute!!:

I hung it above the door and I love that it makes a bigger impact than just the brass signs:

You know I love touches of black in our decor and it ties in beautifully with the hardware on the doors:

I nailed a (affiliate) sawtooth hanger to the back to hang it.

I'm happy to pull one of my favorites from the old house into this one -- yet again, with a twist!:

You can see more about that peel and stick wallpaper and my plan for that bathroom here

I found my signs at Five Thirty Home in Zionsville Indiana both times, so if you're nearby check them out! You can find my exact signs online -- this is the women one and this is the men version. You can also get this combo sign that's really cute too.

I love adding quirky little additions like this to our home. They keep things fun and interesting. :) Have a great weekend my friends! I hope to start a big painting project.

    1. I so wanted to take them but the doors were hollow core and they wouldn't have been easy to patch. :)

  6. So funny! I never saw this in your old house but just found some wooden ones at Michaels that I big puffy heart a few weeks ago! Thought I was being so original! Haha! Planning to hang them from a small pipe in a slightly different look than this. It will be great for guests because our bathroom is a bit hard to locate. :)
