I replaced them with honey and homemade almond milk (I didn't strain it - just added water and almond flour to the blender, combined them, then added the other ingredients). Turned out great. My daughter loved it and my non-SCD family members liked it too. Not sure how close it is to the intended taste, but it works for us. I buy old discounted bananas in the produce department and freeze them in the peels. Then when we make smoothies we just peel and throw them in the blender. I usually add strawberries or some other fruit. I will have to try just the two, but I love the pretty green color it makes! He served a church mission in Brazil and one of his favorite foods there was avocado smoothies. It's pretty much the same minus the banana. The kids and I made your version as a smoothie for him to celebrate his birthday. He loved it, of course. But my favorite reaction was the kids: "I don't think I'm going to like that. Eww, that looks like guacamole..(Then they would try a bite)...Wow! This is really good! Can I have more?!" I agree it was a bit too sweet. You could probably even try it with out any sugar, since the bananas are pretty sweet as is.
