My tip for finding which side is longest for the duvet is to hold one corner and pull your other hand down both sides at once (making a triangle shape)- the short side will be obvious when you get to the other end!
Donna (Scotland)DonnaBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15993008542937506736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-89126894843130198022011-02-01T18:25:55.095-05:002011-02-01T18:25:55.095-05:00I love this post. It makes me feel like the house is in order even if it isn't and vise versa. The trick is I make my husband help me b/f he goes to work. Only problem with that is i actually have to get out of bed before he goes to work which really stinks some days. but it's so easy with help. i have 9 pillows a sheet set and a quilt folded at the bottom. it's a king and really pretty easy to make. it only takes a couple of minutes. btw-i totally love your new bed set. beautifulAmandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14205067926290325852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-909650001290021742011-01-01T16:45:13.072-05:002011-01-01T16:45:13.072-05:00Beautiful bedroom! I actually like the "before" much better, but that's because I love that shade of green on the walls!

Just wanted to share that I too struggle with the thickness of our mattress and tugging at the fitted sheet just as you did.

The only solution (and I've tried several) that has worked best for me was to buy two fitted sheets and to place one of them on the underside of the mattress, then pin it to hold in place. Then, I place the other fitted sheet on the bed in the usual way.

It sort of forms an envelope enclosing the mattress totally in sheet. This was important to me because our sheets are a dark brown and I couldn't stand the way the sheet would ride up and expose the light-colored mattress. Now, all you see is brown.

I hope I'm describing it where you can understand. Just wanted to let you know I share in your frustration with a really like mattress!Carolynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-54147552857432270802010-09-18T00:38:13.157-04:002010-09-18T00:38:13.157-04:00Oh my gosh! Extremely slowly as the funds are very low and need to spread throughout our entire house and I'm currently unemployed. :(
Anywho... my hubby decided to be involved and he chose the blue or bluish-sage and brown color palatte. We will just do all of the bedding, drapes, and corner chair. We will have to wait on all of the dressers/nightstands a few years.
Anywho, back on topic, I always use to buy a king duvet for my queen sized bed b/c I hated my mattress showing. We still have a queen BUT I found out that the more expensive stores such as PB and RH make their bedding sizes to BIGGER dimensions! I bought a soft powder blue quilt (plus 2 Euro shams) from PB on sale, made to the larger dimensions. So a queen ACTUALLY covered my queen mattress. I waited a year (meanwhile searching high and low) to get a new duvet and shams. Well low and behold I found one I thought would work and tie in our new chair (we bought in a fabulous fun whimsical print) to the bed... hubby didn't like it. I showed him everything I could find without breaking the bank and that went in our new color scheme... nope. Didn't fly. Why does he have to approve anyhow? He should just leave this up to me. :) Guess which one he loved and wanted... the only one probably left on the planet that goes perfectly in our new scheme that we both agree we love? The Restoration Hardware one you posted! It's the Italian Antiqued Floral but we got the Eucalyptus color instead of Taupe. It's definitely LURVE but I choked to death when I had to pay for it at the register! YIKES! I still die thinking about how much it was. But alas, if it will make both of us happy; not miserable, or regretful... then it was worth the money. And you'd better believe that I am keeping that bedding for the rest of my life! It's very soft soft soft and oh so soothing in the room... it brings peace and luxury. Good feelings for a master bedroom. :) Now I'll be waiting even LONGER to afford new white sheet set and the drapes... oh I can't even think about how many drapes we need. But the bedding is done! And I do have to iron the portion of the sheet at the top that I fold over and is visible in the room but I do that once it's on the bed. And I don't FULLY make the bed all the time (with all the pillows and what-not) but when I do it makes me very happy to see it done everytime I walk into the room. Maybe if you have new bedding that wasn't a struggle you'd make it more often too?
I do know that some sheet sets specify for deep pockets and up to 18" so look for those for your bed. For example, PB says all of the their fitted sheets fit up to 18" depth mattresses. Also if you just have a regular king and not a cal king and can't go the PB or RH store route with the larger sizes, then go up to a cal king duvet for your regular king in a less expensive brand so that it can cover more and if you need to lay it on the bed the "wrong" way to make the length the width if you need to. (So if you will, don't buy a pattern that has to be only one way on the bed). That's my long rambling story and advice. :) I enjoy your blog!Steph C.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-185012722066375872010-08-30T22:50:09.371-04:002010-08-30T22:50:09.371-04:00I DO make my bed every day!
