Thank GOD I am not the only one who deals with this!!! I always try and remind myself of the saying "cleaning up after kids is like trying to shovel while it's still snowing". There is no point!!! :)
It's like the Tazmanian Devil comes through isn't it?? I often wonder why I bother picking up and training my 3 year old to do it (or even my 7 or 9 year old) hasn't worked very well.
My 4 year old does this, too...the thing is..our 13 year old never did...he was so good about his toys, so this is a new thing for me...and I'm older and crankier now, lol..dang! Can't wait til he is done with toys and I can start donating them:)
Hey, gf!!! Just remember they are only little once!! You sound just like me. I can't stand a mess. But, cleaning it once a day is a great achievement!!! Enjoy your beautiful son!!

Oh gosh, I can soooo relate! This is my life. Sometimes I just give up trying to keep toys picked up. Then one day I get motivated to start all over, but it takes me about a day to get it all back in order. Why do I do that to myself?
My children are in college and the only difference is their toys change.... LOL JUST JOKING... Not really! LOL When they come home from college, everything drops at the front door (camping gear, sorority stuff, clothes and etc.), hugging starts and all the front door stuff is forgotten, just as it was when they were children! I miss them and their friends when they are gone.... Remember that and smile as you pick up each piece!
Right there with you girlie. Can you say FRUSTRATION!!! I actually have a play room right now with a fort that needs to be put away and two little ones who procrastinate like crazy in an effort to get out of it.
As everyone else has said, you're sooo not alone in that battle. And, the thing is, some days I just don't care. LOL When it spills over into the kitchen, then we've got to clean it up.
I think my brain actually leaves my body when I pick up after my son. I really can't remember doing it but I know I have at least 5 times...before lunch :) Thanks for stopping by! I'm planning a giveaway soon for a monogrammed mug, keep checking back!
Jill, you know, that is so true. I've heard that kids like it much better with less -- they can concentrate more on specific toys instead of going from one to the next. I've weeded out some of his to the basement and his room too, so they are at least spread out. His birthday is coming up and I can't WAIT to go through all of these and pack up half of them! Just time to get MORE!!
Thanks for stopping by. I think it's my 1st time over to your place. I don't know the answer to your question, but if I weren't so ashamed, I'd show you a picture of my bonus room right now, and it would make you feel ALOT better about the toys. I'm loving that paint color. I'm looking for something similar for my dining room. Do you mind sharing the color? I hope to one day be as brave as you & start decorating full-time. Hubby says I'm so good at spending his $$, I need to start spending someone else's!
Hey I have an idea, that I used to do...I had 3 small little ones, now in college, you will miss this I promise. Anyhoodle...I had 2 rectangular baskets side to side with lids, we are talking the size of a toy chest. Everynight, we would set the minute timer (of course I had to help) and we would put toys in the baskets as fast as possible. This became a routine, then we would tickle and giggle at the end to make it fun...Every mom deals with this, don't get discouraged. Blessings, Debbie
This is so like my house and my youngest is 7!!!! Her room is a disaster area! That's where I plan on working tonight and cleaning out clothes that don't fit anymore and toys she doesn't play with! Hopefully it will last a while! BTW I love your blog! I have it linked on mine and keep telling so many people they need to check out your awesome ideas!
I'm glad that you have the same problem I do. I say my kids don't play, they dump! Even my nine year old can make a mess quicker than anyone I've ever seen.
I'm so right there with you... I do, sometimes, not bother to pick up all the toys... but it makes the whole next day seem to drag a bit... like it starts out messy or something. LOL.
This TOTALLY cracked me up! My kids have a nice bonus room to play in and BOOM! The toy shelf, box and any container in the room throws up. It's like the big bang. I've given up. If you find a pretty solution that's affordable...please share it! With three boys my whole house would look like that in a day. BLESS YOU!`
I LOVE your comments, thank you! (I read every single one.)

How did you get in my house to take a picture? LOL :)

Looks exactly like my living room.
ReplyDeleteIt could be insanity! I know that's how I feel when I do it every day!!!

ReplyDeleteI too can relate to your post!
ReplyDeleteI have a four-year old daughter and her play room was a disaster, she wouldn't tidy up and I was getting so frustrated.
You know what I did? When she was at school, I went into her play room and stuck about 3/4 of her toys in a box and put it in the basement.
When she came home, she didn't even notice the missing toys...and still doesn't and that was four weeks ago.
She actually thanked me and said "Oh mommy! Thank you so much for organizing my play room!"
In hindsight, I have realized that I have given her too many toys and she was too overwhelmed to keep them tidy.
Anyway, I just thought I would share my experience.

ReplyDeleteIf you figure it out, please let me know!!! The destruction is amazing sometimes! And I pick up the same things over and over....only to do it again!

ReplyDeleteI have learned to close their bedroom door.
I don't get it either! When you figure it out be sure to let all us moms know!!!!

Woah! Which hurricane hit your living room? Very funny post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt takes your kids 5 minutes? Mine can do it in 3 flat. You DO NOT want to see my living room right now. I don't even know where to start.
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not alone.
I'm glad that you have the same problem I do. I say my kids don't play, they dump! Even my nine year old can make a mess quicker than anyone I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm a mean mom :) and only have toys in the bedroom!
ReplyDeleteLove your skills! You and I have a lot in common in that area...I LOVE decorating and recreating!
It look's like my living room. Just like it. :))
