Tops of 2011

Hey hey! How is your last week of the year coming along? I’m still not doing much. Other than eating. And sitting. And sleeping. ;)

Yesterday I posted about the top ten posts in 2011 (based on your comments), and I couldn’t resist sharing some other tops of the year! Google Analytics is chock full of awesome little details about blog traffic (if you don’t have it set up on your blog, you should!).

I gathered a few of my favorites to share with you today! And then I swear…onto the new for 2012! ;)

I love to check out the posts that get the most traffic every year. It’s a great reminder because it truly shows the benefit of titling your posts right. Eight of the top ten posts that were “hit” on my blog this year were NOT from this year. Some were actually from years ago. Isn’t that crazy?

There is great power in titling your posts according to how they will be searched! Here are the top ten:

image1. How to Decorate Your Mantel

2. How to Make a Headboard

3. Dollar Store Fall Wreath

4. Comfort Foods

5. A Santa Craft

6. DIY Drum Shade Chandelier

7. Closet Turned Book Nook

8. Family Room Redone

9. Warm and Cozy Family Room

10. New Dining Room Centerpiece

It was also fun to look back at the linky parties I hosted this year. I checked back on them to see which ones had the most links. I gathered the top five to share – if you have nothing to do this weekend I think they’ll keep you occupied. ;)

5. Home May’d Spray Paint Party (493)

image 4. Before and After: February (499)

image 3. Before and After Party: March (505)

image 2. Before and After Party: November (507)

image 1. Christmas Tree Party (573)

Of course I have to give a shout out to all the bloggers who sent me visitors this year! I consider them all friends and am lucky to know them!

1. Centsational Girl
2. Hooked on Houses
3. Bower Power
4. Nesting Place
5. 320 Sycamore
6. All Things Thrifty
7. The Inspired Room
8. Miss Mustard Seed
9. The Lettered Cottage
10. Better After

Live Writer wouldn’t let me link to the full blog names for some reason. Highly annoying. So just click on the grey parts to get to these lovely ladies. :)

Numbers one and two are actually Facebook and Pinterest respectively. It is blowing my mind how Pinterest is affecting blogging – in a mostly really good way! If you have a blog and don’t have an account, I encourage you get one!

And just for fun, I checked out where all you Squeezies come from. :) Of course the majority is the good old US of A, but it was kind of cool to see the top five:

1. Canada
2. Australia
3. UK
4. Germany
5. Brazil

Sooo…if any of you (especially those Australia or Brazil) would like me to come stay for a week or so, that would be awesome. Just let me know. ;)

There you go! Aren’t recaps fun?? No? Maybe just for me? Whatevs. Did you find Thrifty Decor Chick in 2011? If so was it from one of the posts I linked to? I’d love to hear!

I hope to be back before the new year, but if not I hope you have a wonderful end of 2011 and even better start to 2012!! Loves ya!

  1. I am surprised too when old posts get lots of traffic. One of my old posts that continues to get visitors is from one of your Before and After parties.
    Have a wonderful New Years.

  2. Aside from my master bath reveal post, the one about seeing you in HG has gotten the most hits. So I've decided to just follow you around town and blog about it :)

Google Analytics makes my head spin. I can't figure out how to load it. I'm such a techie!

  3. Happy New Year to you too, Sarah!! I love the year in review posts - they are fun! I found your blog this year and for the life of me I can't remember how I found you. And I'm pretty sure yours was the first party I ever linked to. You are with out a doubt my favorite blog, shhh! lol I'm looking forward to keep up with you in 2012!! Have a great weekend!

    ~ Catie

  4. I found TDC in 2011... Although I can't remember how, I'm so glad I did! Love following your blog and I look forward to following it into 2012! Happy New Year to you and your family!

  5. I love that closet turned Book Nook!

Since I'm new to this blogging world, was wondering if (1) will you still be hosting your first Monday link party on 1/2/12 and; (2) will the link up have a "best of and/or favorites of 2011" post theme?

If no ... and then I link up a 'best of 2011' ... and you're not hosting that theme, will I be deleted?

  6. Hi Sarah,

I found you in June of 2011 (I had googled an image of something and your dining room picture caught my eye) and I bookmarked the first post I was your July 26, 2010 post when you took the china hutch off and you replaced it with the mirror. I did run to Dollar Tree to make those $2 candle holders. Lol

Looking forward to being inspired by you some more in 2012.

  7. Hey There! I did find your blog in 2011. Although I can't promise, I think I hopped on over from Bower Power! Who I hopped to from Young, House, Love! I love reading all of your blogs as one of my faves! Since you mentioned Pinterest....I have an account but have no idea how to link it on my to this still, lol. Any help? Happy New Year to you! (a bit early!)

  8. I agree - Pinterest is amazing! I'm so thankful for it. My 15 minutes a day of cleaning post has been hit from Pinterest 400,000 pageviews - a post I did in 2010. Yes, that's 400,000! It's unbelievable! Plus, with everyone wanting to organize right now is going crazy on Pinterest! I see your stuff floating on Pinterest all the time, too!

  9. I found your site via Hooked on Houses and I love it! It looks like you've had a very busy few years. Well done on the great blog :)

By the way, I live in Australia and today is just a little too much hot for my liking. But saying that, I will be heading to the beach later which is always nice.

    Happy New Year!

  10. Hiya TDC! I'm so glad you added these other posts cause I've been reading your blog for two years and even I missed a few of these great projects! Love them!

And thanks for the shout out, you're my number #1 referal too, sweet! So glad to know you and call you my friend.

  11. Mine is just a tiny blog, but one of my top referrers is always Pinterest! I love the book nook, in fact it gave me the kick in the pants to do my own, but with renters restrictions and a tiny house (I'm a UK follower) with no cupboards! If you're interested it's here:
Have loved reading your blog this year, I only just discovered blogging about a year ago, and yours was one of the first I followed!

    Thanks for all the inspiration!

  12. I just found your blog and upon first glance I'm in LOVE. I can't wait to dig in. I already see lots of projects I'm going to have to do. My husband will be so thrilled. :)

  13. Thats so funny, those are almost the exact countries that come to my blog most too! I love this recap, so much fun to look at and congrats again on another great year!

  14. Not surprised your Book Nook post got lots of hits. I see it all over Pinterest. I think a lot of people LOVE that. It's inspiring. Happy New Year!

  15. I found your blog this past summer. We had just moved from our SMALL city condo into our FIRST house and the space I now have is MASSIVE compared to what I had. I have little to no stuff to make it look homey :) So I started searching for cheap DIY projects and found your blog RIGHT AWAY! and I LOVE LOVE it!! Already have several things in my new house that look like your house :D haha! And yes my pinterest board is FULL of TDC projects still to do! Thank you SO much!

  16. All of your posts are always fun to read. Love your favorites. Thanks for some great inspiration in 2011 and look forward to 2012. Hugs, Marty

  17. I found your blog when looking for some thrifty home decorating inspiration. As I read your blogs and saw your pictures I fell in love! Your story is so similar to mine. We are currently tackling our debt monster! Happy New Year! I look forward to following you in 2012!

  18. Thanks for continuing to share your talents, home and thoughts! I'm so glad you reposted your office light fixture project. I am closing on my first house next Friday but am all ready living here and have been trying to figure out how to add extra light to my office without having an electrician in to add a fixture. I will definitely be trying the light project myself over the next few weeks once I get my new Ikea desk and figure out exactly how I"m going to place the furniture. Thanks again! Love your blog!

  19. Gosh, this my first time commenting!
I found your blog in the spring while looking for 'beadboard' bathroom projects. I am now hooked, and have done several other things from your blog, including totally changing my foyer. Much to my husband's dismay. (he is one of those guys that say "what's wrong with what we have now?") Never mind that it's outdated and tired!
Your ideas are super, and I always look forward to your posts.
I am old enough to be your mother, and enjoy your talent and sense of humor!

  20. Hi Sarah!

I am from India, and I love your blog and your home. Happy new year 2012 to you and yours.

  21. Thanks for the shout-out, Sarah! Your blog is one of my top referrers every month, too. At this point I think we share a lot of the same lovely readers. :)

Wishing you continued blogging success in 2012--you deserve it! xo

  22. Feel free to come visit me anytime in Canada - not quite as exotic as Brazil, but it's still a nice place :) I got hooked on your blog earlier this year after I found you off Google! And when I say hooked, I mean my husband sometimes has to pry me away from all the beautiful photos. Hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year!

  23. I found you in 2011 by searching for organizing and decluttering. I was hooked after seeing your basement before and after photos. Love your blog! Happy New Year.

  24. Hi! I heard about your blog in 2011 on the Nate Berkus show. I've been hooked ever since.

  25. I found your blog in 2011 through a link on Bower Power. I'm so glad I did. I love your style and your attitude. Also, I picked up some LED tea lights at the Dollar Store to add to my Christmas decorations. I love em! Thanks for the recommendation.

  26. I found your blog within the last 6 months or so. Not for sure where I found you, but it was off somebody's blog roll. I've been inspired so much by the blog world, I just started one in November. I especially love your posts about keeping it real and revealing the "not so perfect" :). In fact, I'm doing a post after the new year about my clutter counter confession - inspired from those posts:). Hope you'll stop by sometime.
    Happy New Year!! Kim

  27. I found your blog through Pinterest! Love it (and Pinterest). You're already having a big influence--I saw some napkin rings yesterday made out of buttons and I thought "I could make those!" haha "What Would Thrifty Decor Chick Do?"

  28. Just found you and am your newest follower. I LOVE the closet turned book nook. How sweet is that!

  29. I found your blog in well as Pinterest...and my life has been changed! I saw your JOY photo on pinterest - and you inspired me to make my own for over our mantel (I did NOEL in gold and red letters)- I get so many compliments, so THANK YOU!

  30. I discovered you blog when Nate Berkus mentioned it on his show. I actually remembered the name, big accomplishment for me, lol!

Was this in 2010 or 2011? Regardless, love you, love your blog!

  31. I loved your santa's hats so much I had a go at them, but.... it turned out to be a bit of rubbish hahahaha, so I didn't even mentioned that on my blog(I used totally different materials anyway, so... well, it just didn't work:). Anyway, I am here to wish you a very happy new year, I hope every day will be joyful, and that you, and all you loved ones will not lack health at all! And I hope all your dreams will come true:)
By the way, if you want to spend a week or so in a miserable and rainy Dartmoor UK, you're welcome ;) - It can be pretty sometimes, providing it is not raining, but sadly that doesn't seem to be happening hahahahaha:)

  32. I found your blog from Centsational Girl, who I found from somewhere else, and you are both my top 2 faces. I live in saskatoon Saskatchewan - you'd be welcome to come on up for a visit any time, although you probably want to wait for the summer! Thanks for the fantastic inspiration!

  33. Your new family room looks gorgeous! I also love the drum shade chandelier. Keep up the good work in 2012!

    Miranda @

  34. I'm really glad I found your blog today! Thanks for all the tips! You're very talented!

  35. I found you in 2011! yours was the blog that made the light come on … oooooooh, THIS is what all the buzz is about … this is AWESOME!!! and then I spent hours and hours drooling over your d├ęcor, especially your fall stuff, no matter that it was Janurary :o) thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas and your blogging wisdom. You are awesome!!!

  36. I'm back again with a question: What exactly is 'tilting'?

I'm just 2 months old, but you have been my #1 referring site and #3 referring URL -- so thanks so much!

I also found it fun to see that after U.S. and Canada, my third largest audience comes from Russia! Go figure!

  37. You have a great blog here. I just found it. I do absolutely love that new dining room centerpiece. It is very beautiful.

  38. Hi Ms Thrifty Decor Chick, I found you through Blogtopsites this year. thanks, Kathy, Petticoat Junktion

  39. You had a great year! So glad I found you this year. Happy New Year!

  40. I LOVE that closet book nook! I could use some comfort foods now--sneezing head cold!
