Well hello and happy Friday! Here in Indiana we had thunderstorms and near 60 degree temps just last night and now it’s 35 and snowing. AWESOME. I don’t know why I always talk about weather here. Because it’s annoying, that’s why.
Anyway, I shared all of the paint colors in our home yesterday and as I walked through the house last night I had to laugh. I like to share real life from time to time and thought today would be as good a day as any. There’s a lot going on in the house today and it shows. :)
First up, the mud room. It’s delightfully empty in the most recent pics, but we do actually use it:
I gotta say, this is pure bliss compared to how it looked way back. Always a pit. It is SO NICE to be able to come in the door and hang our coats, and sit to put on our shoes before we leave the house. I LOVE this spot.
The shot of our family room looks like this currently – with the random Valentine/in between Christmas/mostly empty mantel, smooshed cushions and all:
I cleaned and picked up before these pics, I spared you that. :)
Remember the “chopped” pillows I showed you last week? Well, this is how they usually look:
At least they’re not on the floor.
I’m working on the master closet and the pile of donate/sell has been sitting around for about a week now:
The floors are filthy because of that beautiful pile of wood in our living room. The guys are here today to start the installation in our bedroom and they’ve been in and out all morning. Whooo HOO! So happy!!
And who doesn’t love a little Christmas in late February?:
Fa la la la la…I need to take those down.
And this is the loft currently, with everything from the bedroom piled in:
It’s going to be a fun few days, but I’m happy to live with it.
So that’s a snapshot of our home right now. Any projects going on in yours this weekend? Have a great one!
Mother nature is beyond bipolar this year!!!
ReplyDeleteI still have my Christmas wreath on my front door. You are not alone!! And I also feel like I am constantly talking about the weather both in real life and on my blog lately. Come on spring!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping it real girlfriend. And yes, the weather this year is INSANE!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for Spring too! It's going to be close to 60 here in Maryland and it's gonna feel like a heat wave! Thanks for sharing your "real life pics" I have two small kids and my sofa ALWAYS looks like your does! Or, the pillows are thrown on the floor for fort building.
ReplyDeleteI have a few projects that have been in limbo since before Christmas. So, finishing painting our pantry and stairwell are on my weekend agenda. Might as well get the indoor projects done now when we're basically stuck inside anyway. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can feel your pain with winter. We are on snow day #6, with them threatening to take away our spring break. We got a dumping of snow yesterday into last night, winds whipping at about 35mph. If I could brave the cold and didn't mind it, I would search out places to take photos. Everything looks flocked. But also... we are heading back into the freezer, so to speak.. highs next week here in western WI are back in the negative! This winter just needs to end! SOON!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love your sleep number bed laying there all upside down in your craft space. LOL I have one too (well, sleep number bed and the craft room. ;) separate floors though. LOL) Seriously though, how do you like your bed? I am used to a much thicker, higher mattress. It is taking some getting used to. I was at IKEA recently and bought the new soft teal pillow cover and down insert. I love it!! Doesn't match my main level at all. But, I will put it away to use in the basement.. if we can ever get that finished!
Right now my house is cleaner than ever, because we just put it on the market today and have our first showing in 3.5 hours! I don't know how people keep their houses show-ready all of the time...I sure appreciate "real life" shots.
ReplyDeleteHi! I was going thru your home photos and just fell in love and told myself that my house would never will look like that and gave up hope to do anything about it. I was really glad to see that you have one of those days like me. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you show "real" photos of your home as well as the perfect photos. They give me hope when I feel I'll never have a moment of perfect in our "real" home, which I love (I just like an occasional perfect moment amid the chaos)!
ReplyDeleteYou do not know how much I enjoy 'real' photos of people's homes when I feel like I am fighting the tide here. Thank you so much for being real with us!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet! I read your blog regularly and you seem so perfect. It's nice to see you are just like me! Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor. I love reading what you write.
ReplyDeleteThank you for keeping it real! With kids it is so hard to keep things tidy for too long. you have a beautiful home, no matter what! Kari
ReplyDeleteLove it, Sarah. It is so refreshing to see real life sometimes in other people's homes. Often, I feel as though I am the only one with a bit of chaos here there and everywhere. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nici
I love when people share "real" home photos. We bought 2 desks and 2 Alex units from IKEA last weekend. Now we have to put them together. Plus, I need to fix my printer.
ReplyDeleteI just love that you share in a realistic way. It is so important to remember that the work we do in our homes is a process and not everything is as neat, tidy and quick as the next blog post. I know you will eventually show us the result of this new project and we will have the benefit of your experiences, good and bad. No doubt it will be amazing as usual. :) My family is smack dab in the middle of huge mess. Thanksgiving night our entire house flooded. A compression fitting under the kitchen sink burst while we were sleeping. We have been in the process of repairing/remodeling since. Our garage is jam packed with furniture and we have a huge POD in the driveway filled up. We haven't had a kitchen for weeks. Cabinets were finished yesterday and we hope to have countertops, a sink with running water and a stove by Thursday. (God bless wonderful contractors! :) ) We've been painting the house room by room and hope to complete that and replace all of the stained wood doors with white panel doors and tile our bathrooms and laundry room this next week. March should bring hardwood floors, carpet and finally new trim. We are so looking forward to having our house back to normal!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say I'm sorry to hear all this, Lori. How horrible. Big virtual hug to a literal stranger. Haha.
DeleteStay sane.
Chrissy
Aw, thank you Chrissy. That's so sweet. :) Made my day!

I love that you are keeping it real! I am glad I am not the only person whose house is chaotic and messy when we are in the middle of projects! Can't WAIT to see how your master closet turns out!

We also live in Indiana -- Bloomington to be exact. We escaped winter right after Christmas but our kids live in Carmel so we know what you are going through. Someone sent us an email with one of those "forward" things he also lives in Indiana and the email was hysterical. My hubby and I had tears running down our cheeks we were laughing so hare. It was a kind of diary of someone who has just discovered the beauty of Indiana and their first winter there. Great Writing. Big project for us will be the kitchen and yard and we are doing all of our plans now for when we get home. Love your house.
ReplyDeleteMy "real" isn't nearly as pretty as yours!

ReplyDeleteChange out the tree in Fa-la-la to a St. Patty's four leaf clover and call it good.
ReplyDeleteI just loved the snapshots of your home... what a brave girl to share but actually - the house just looks 'lived' in and isn't that what we all strive for in the end? Have a wonderful weekend... and P.S. your house is always gorgeous! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou mean I have to take my wreath off the front door????
ReplyDeleteBeautiful designs i really like it. Thanks for sharing.

This post had me laughing the whole way through. Not even kidding. You know how I like when you keep it real.
ReplyDeleteThe disorder of the 'during' part in re-do's in my house makes me quiver. We usually see such neat progress photos on tdc, so to see your bedroom chaos was actually helpful. Ha.
And wood in the living room! I'm always nervous for your lovely floors. And am cringing for and with you at the dirt. But it will be worth it, I'm sure!
Thanks for the "during" photo of the closet project.

Ok how did I never notice that you have a goldish-brown couch and gray chairs? I have been giving myself fits because I want to incorporate gray into my scheme, and our cozy comfy broken-in couch is GOLD! Now I see it can be done, and I can show The Man and say neener-neener!
ReplyDeleteI finally scored 4 cane-back dining chairs on CL last week, and found the perfect fabric at JoAnn for 1/2 off yesterday, so there is that project coming up. I finished refinishing the top of my 40+ year old kitchen table 10 days ago, and I can't stop touching it. No more sticky icky old finish! I also started my grandmothers' cedar chest. I need more milk paint for that though...
I just love how "real" you are! You make us all feel better. But let me say, even with the smashed pillows and left over Christmas and Valentine décor, your spaces are still beautiful! Thanks for being real with your readers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! My house is a series of unfinished projects at the moment...including the Christmas tree in the playroom that stands pitifully bare, waiting for me to put him away.
ReplyDeletereal = awesome. Thank you.
ReplyDeletePS Where did you get the bases for your bed? I need one for our Sleep Number!
Thanks! Ours came with our bed, I bet they could tell you how to get them. I like that they're so light weight!
