I felt like it took up too much space inside the freezer and it wasn't that big of a deal to open the door and get the ice. We have super hard water in our area and even though there was a water softener for the hot water, it didn't do anything for the cold. Long wet story later, the minerals built up around the water dispenser and one night (always at night) it somehow jammed on and water leaked/poured all over the floor. I totally loved my Frigidaire with the freezer on bottom. We chose Frigidaire in our new house which by the way has 90% of the same finishes as your new place.
Best of luck with your build!
PS You will be happy you chose counter depth. On a remodel about 15 years ago my builder cut the drywall out behind the fridge and braced the wall between the studs properly and it looked like our fridge was built in. Loved it!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04809162758874776311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-89846886613318112802017-09-17T22:09:13.152-04:002017-09-17T22:09:13.152-04:00Splurge on counter-depth, skip the water in the do...Splurge on counter-depth, skip the water in the door. Kenmore is a Sears ...Kenmore is NOT the same as LG. Kenmore is a Sears beans and most likely a a GE, Frigidaire. LG is a Korean company, but not the same company as Samsung. In Korea (I'm Korean), most people have Samsung washer and dryers and LG refrigerators. However, Korean appliances are very different from American appliances (size, function, decor, etc). The ones they sell here are probably made for Americans. I had an LG French door fridge in my last place and a my Maytag before that. Maytag was fine, but I disliked my LG. The seal constantly had mold on it that I couldn't get rid of. In my new house, I got a KitchenAid stove and dishwasher, and plan on getting a matching fridge, purely for asthetic purposes. KitchenAid was bought by Whirlpool and is basically the same thing. I bought a whirlpool dishwasher for my last house (~$500), which I loved, then moved two months later and bought a signifantly more expensive KitchenAid ($800+) for my new house cause I liked the way it looked (both on sale with coupons). It's basically a crappier version of the newer model whirlpool. The inside looks almost the same, they clearly used the same parts, but the functions are not as good in the KitchenAid and the dishes don't get as clean. Not terrible, just disappointing given it's almost 40% more. Having said that, I still plan on getting the KitchenAid fridge, because when I redo the kitchen, I want it to match everything. I plan on getting the water in front version because I have a water refiner and I need to put that baby to use. (You might want to consider a water refiner vs a
Just softener. It's more expensive, but it removes things from the water like chlorine, which is a problem for us in San Diego). Good luck!!rebekahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05660602976710610517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-10457329659309899712017-09-16T09:47:18.078-04:002017-09-16T09:47:18.078-04:00Not a huge fan of French Door Fridges. I only know, because my Dad worked at an appliance repair place for years! He always said that Samsung and LG would take months for the parts to come in. He also said to NEVER get a Bosch. A few parts have broken over the years, BUT they are easy to find and replace yourself.
Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00342467790727259855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-6564367885048059002017-09-15T22:23:38.331-04:002017-09-15T22:23:38.331-04:00You have a much different fridge than my daughter....You have a much different fridge than my daughter. The one at her house has water in the door and I was going to comment on how painfully slow it is to even fill a glass of water. I swear our water in the door isn't super fast, but the one inside her door feels like it takes two minutes to fill a glass. I never thought of the temperature, but when I want water I don't want to wait so long for the glass to fill. Good to know they aren't all that slow. Which do you have, if you don't mind me asking. Because yes, we open the fridge to put things in or take them out, but not for that long! We are BIG water drinkers here -- all five of us filling our 8-12 oz glasses multiple times a day. My mother-in-law has her water dispenser inside the fridge and it's the biggest PIA to stand there with the door open. I've started bringing our own bottled water (the big dispenser type) to her house whenever we are there for a day or more so I don't have to listen to her yelling at the kids (or me!) to "Close the refrigerator door!!"Betshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03013861656462451362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-70961017848180411382017-09-15T17:24:01.877-04:002017-09-15T17:24:01.877-04:00We are also in the process of replacing a fridge. ...We are also in the process of replacing a fridge. My advice: never ever, EVER get a Frigidaire! We got a Frigidaire suite of appliances when we built our house and everyone of them we've had to replace (except the oven). The door shelves fall out of the fridge and I've had to replace all of them. The water filter gets stuck, the gasket came off...seriously a lemon. I am in love with the Samsung fridge that has four compartments and one of the freezer compartments can be switched to be a freezer or fridge (Hellllllooooo hosting holidays!)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13955751787851621939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-73363158341993165802017-09-15T17:22:13.433-04:002017-09-15T17:22:13.433-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13955751787851621939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-63514083940100728272017-09-15T12:29:59.695-04:002017-09-15T12:29:59.695-04:00We have a JennAir with water and ice inside. Water will drip down and onto the freezer door bracket which will end up rusting. 3. Is it really energy efficient if you have the door wide open waiting 1-2 minutes to fill the water glass/bottle. 4. It's inevitable that while you are getting water, someone wants to walk through.
We purchased it at the Sears Outlet. It has a dent on one door on the side and they knocked $700 off the price because of it. Price was a definite consideration.
Get the fridge with the dispenser on the outside. It is just too convenient to get ice and water without opening the fridge, especially for kids, who, in my experience, love to just stand there looking in the fridge like it is imparting the meaning of life. Actually, the next fridge I buy is going to have that cute little "snack" drawer as well as the essential ice/water dispenser on the outside door. Here's what I recently decided... a refrigerator is the one appliance I use EVERYDAY... that alone gives it super status in the home ! We could spend a mint on the built in high end industrial refrigerators... even with our designer discounts . That being said Jenn-aire has a program that includes 50% off six appliances by attending their Chicago in-house seminar, all expenses paid check it out ! So if I have to buy an appliance I'm going for the bells and whistle's , Energy efficiency , and a good rating on consumer reports! We all use the ice and water dispenser every day on my current GE which has a very easy filter change inside the refrigerator and I don't have to have water filters on my Faucets...
My current LOVE is the LG, stainless French door, knock twice and the right door lights up to reveal what's on the door , a refrigerated drawer for the kids snacks , and freezer drawer on the bottom ...she's a beauty... wish I could post the pics . I actually would prefer not to have a water line to the refrigerator at all. These things take up valuable refrigerator real estate and I have seen a lot of water problems occur with that little water line. A brita pitcher of water works well for those times that tap water isn't wanted and I prefer to make ice cubes that are larger than most ice makers. Oh - and the cost is much more reasonable which is never a bad thing. Best advice is to understand how you use these additional bits and whether you would significantly miss them if they are not part of your kitchen. How your family uses the space makes all the difference.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11191246639319038077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7781670590071996754.post-88189219078607678042017-09-14T15:35:22.407-04:002017-09-14T15:35:22.407-04:00I love having the ice and water dispensers on the ...I love having the ice and water dispensers on the outside of the fridge.
