Last year when I went through the whole house I realized the massive amount of money I had been WASTING. I kept buying new things I already had because the originals were buried in piles and piles of crap:
I found four of these:

I found three of these:

At least ten of these (sanding blocks):
About twenty of these:
Does a nonsmoking household really need twenty lighters? I guess so, cause I also found about 40 of these:
And tonight, I found eight -- yes, EIGHT -- of these:
What have you found?
Cause I know you've been decluttering!! (Good thing I don't live near you, right?)
Well, we just moved so I am still unpacking. Did you find any extra wrenches? Because I can't find ours and I need to use it. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! I was cleaning out my pantry today and I found so many things in multiples. Like 4 baking soda containers. I went through my spices and I had five or six of all sorts of things. I guess when I'm at the store I just pick up spices just in case. I really need a better system there!
ReplyDeleteHave a great night!
Jen
Just organized my spice cupboard - 3 jars of oregano, italian seasoning, and cinnamon, 3 cans of pepper, and 2 each of ground cloves, cream of tartar, and marjoram!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you need to have a big yard sale. Aren't you glad your decluttering though. Congratulations. Debbie
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, I constantly am losing things and rebuying them. Def. need to keep things organized better.
ReplyDeleteTher eis no telling. I am in the process now. I have the thrift truck to arrive on Friday to take it away...now I have to declutter.
ReplyDeleteYou should have a garage sale, an online sale or a swap party!
That is halarious! And so true!!! I'm on it!

HA! I laugh since I am constantly doing the same thing. THANK YOU, I am not alone. Makes it all seem ok. haha
ReplyDeleteummmm...doesn't everybody have 8 pairs of ear buds?
ReplyDeleteFunny!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with all the earbuds?...Hmm...:)
I have ALOT of extra wall decor'. It's stored neatly under our guest room bed.
I need a bigger house with more walls...NOT.
Lots of frames! Yes lots and lots. I am going to dig them out to do a frame collage on one of my big walls. Thanks for making me think of what treasures are already in my house.
ReplyDeleteStop it! I'm getting soooo convicted. lol... I do this all the time and I get so mad at myself when I find out I already had an item at home.
ReplyDeleteIt is a VERY good thing {for this reason only!} because I can tell you right now that I have not done an OUNCE of decluttering this week. Last week, yes. This week, no.
ReplyDelete:)
But if you DID live near me, I'd be asking you out to lunch tomorrow. Or over to my house. No wait, that will have to wait til I declutter....
I was cleaning from on top of a wardrobe in our bedroom. I found 6 brand new rolls of Christmas ribbon! Does me no good in FEBRUARY! I'll have forgotten all about them by December!
ReplyDeleteLOL! It's amazing what you find when you are decluttering! And getting rid of lots of stuff feels good too!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't think you can have too many glue guns or sanding blocks, so those don't count! :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're getting a lot done, I need to get in gear!
I'm the same way! I now have a few baskets and drawers that we are using to collect things. I then try to empty those out when cleaning, so I can put the things away in the CORRECT spot. I am bad with canned goods (although you can always use them!), cheese (that I then freeze), but as for house hold goods, I'm bad with office supplies (I'm a teacher and go to school), envelopes, and a few random things. Our problem is also that my dad gives us tools (he's a carpenter) and so we have a lot of repeats. Some day they will all have a home, besides in random tool boxes (as in about 8 of them). Ohhh... for my wedding I got really bad about buying candles, thinking I'd use them for the centerpieces... I used maybe half. I have a ton!
ReplyDeleteI am no not a clutter hoarder so I do not have tons of extra lying around...I am the contrary...somtimes i have thrown something away that I really need. Is there a balance?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have been cleaning out drawers in my house!
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you!
I sense a guilt trip in there somewhere! LOL I have been decluttering slowly but surely....and I have an $82 check from the consignment shop to show for it!! I've been getting one every 2-3 months so I keep taking more crap, er....stuff. I'm also trying to do a little decorating and small makeovers here and there too without spending a lot. I get bored with a "look" after awhile.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I know I have bought at least 5 tape measures, so why can't I ever find any of them?? I'll resort to buying another one, and then I'll find the other 5 in a box in the basement or something.
ReplyDeleteSarah, maybe you should just start up a rental business!! lol......hey I could use one of those glue guns, and yes, we should have a swap. I gotta decide what I've got too many of first. Probably would be ribbon! OH my!
ReplyDeleteDid you get the catalog?
Suzanne
Oh no, I think I have lots of clutter and the garage is calling, but I won't buy anything new yet. lol Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Whenever I declutter I find multiples of everything!
ReplyDeleteI found a green tablecloth. I was so happy because I knew it was somewhere in the house, I just didn't know where.
ReplyDeleteThree glue guns - guilty as charged!
ReplyDeleteoh love, the things I have found is also amazing...a bra I was missing...a shirt I forgot i owned and oh yes, a box of tampons! In my closet! I was like, what?! Anyway, amazing what you find when you clean house isn't it. Well, declutter the house I mean. :)
ReplyDeleteI have an ungodly ammount of black and white tank tops. WAY TOO MANY!
ReplyDeleteThose sanding blocks are awesome! We could use those for our pinewood derby car! :)
ReplyDeleteI have gone through and downsized quite a bit recently! Old magazines that I saved for "ideas", I found a gift card I put in a bag recently, whoops! With my decluttering more of what I have enjoyed is passing things on to people through donations and freecycle and clearing out space in our house!
When I cleaned out the storage area underneath the stairs, I finally found the package of old black and white pictures of me as a child that I knew I had somewhere. They are irreplacable, so its a good thing that I found them.
ReplyDeleteI also found several never used photo albums, which I need!
Hi! I declutter every time I move and in my life, I have moved 24 times! I have very little clutter ... and I like it like that!
ReplyDeleteI thought I was good at decluttering until...yesterday when I cleaned out the garage. FIVE brooms!!! For real??? And three dustpans. Insane!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog a few weeks ago, and have really enjoyed following along!! :)
I have about 100 pairs of scissors! Mainly because my daughters get them and never put them back and then I cant find them. Yep its my daughters who loose them. :)
ReplyDeleteI found some multiples of die cuts that I bought. And, dang it, the store won't take the second ones back. Sometimes you learn the hard way, don't ya?
ReplyDeleteI just got my groove back and am hoping that after the three day weekend I will be finding (and getting rid of) a LOT of stuff!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been decluttering but "re-decorating" with what I already have. Freshening up different rooms by pulling items from others, rearranging furniture, painting a bit, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt's made it feel completely new and I didn't spend a dime yet!!! :)
I am decluttering my house continually. The problem is I keep putting everything in the shed. So as soon as the weather is good I will be cleaning that out too.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I seem to have many of and can never find is sticky tape.
Ok ... I'm inspired and on board with decluttering :) You've got me hooked!!!
ReplyDeleteExactly what I needed to hear. I have been slowly working on decluttering. It seems harder this year with the economy, I have had a harder time letting go (in case I need it later and can't afford it) :) Kind of silly....thanks for inspiring me to get back in there and start decluttering again.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started yet but i can relate to the hammers, glue gun and sanding blocks!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you should offer up some of the Ipod earphones as a giveaway on your blog!! I am always losing my one pair!
ReplyDeleteWell, it didn't happen at my house, but I was recently working with a client when we found a needle to a record player buried under piles of STUFF on her dresser. I didn't even know what it was!
ReplyDeleteI need to do this! I think I would find different multiples--lots of half-used rolls of packing tape, staplers, half-used packs of birthday candles, hmm? You have me curious now!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had a school project that forced me to clean out our kitchen junk drawers. She had to make a poster for kindergarten of 100 things. Can't believe all the crap she found in those drawers that we hotglued to a poster board. It was a cute project and helped me out too. They made the posters to celebrate their 100 day of school this year.
ReplyDeleteCandles. OH my - I have bought a lot of candles over the years. Time to stop putting them in a cabinet somewhere and start lighting them!
ReplyDeletePENS. We have pens EVERYWHERE. In the bathroom, under the baby's crib, on top of the kitchen cabinets...I have no idea how they end up where they do!
ReplyDeleteI realized this a few years ago. It was shaming. Now I take the extra time to declutter constantly and hunt before I go out. I have to declutter the kids closets, AGAIN! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your journalism comment. It was like finding out that cops really do have a quota to fill! I knew the darn media was consciously biased!
wow great finds!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gone through one drawer yet.....I will get to it after my daughters party.
I am starving for lip glosses until I buy one. Then ever tube of every flavor Bonnie Bell makes creep out from under my couch and gather in a pile on my dresser.
ReplyDeleteThey're gaslighting me, I know it. I'm just not sure what their endgame is...
I know exactly what you are talking about. I am doing the same thing and finding multiples of everything!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny and much worse than me! lol. I instituted organizers in all closets last year -- found a ton of stuff that should be tossed and found multiples of things like shampoos, conditioners, etc. The organizers helped me organize by category and now there is room to spare and no risk of buying more until needed! lol. Now if I could just keep everyone around me organized into utilizing the organizers - THAT's the trick!
ReplyDeleteI am a burts bee lip balm ADDICT! I buy one or two every week or so but I never have one handy so when one does show up it's like christmas. I put some on right away and feel the soothing good kinda burn.... it's heaven!
