WELCOME! Before the tours...
We moved in 2017 after more than 13 years in our first home. We had no plans to move, but happened upon a spec house that we fell head over heels in love with and decided to move. You can read how things magically came together in this post.
Since then I've been working to do what I did in our last home -- adding lots of character to a new house. I'm always tweaking something in our house, especially this one with GREAT bones and a blank slate. :) I thoroughly enjoy tackling the DIY projects myself and most of our room redos have been my handiwork.
- See the paint colors in both houses.
- Curious about a project? You can find many of my DIY projects here.
- Want to know where something is from? You can shop the house. (Affiliate links for your convenience.)

This is the house that built TDC! We built this house in 2004 and I immediately started putting our stamp on it. I had never tackled any big DIY projects before moving in, so I truly learned everything I know working on this home. Many of the rooms received more than one makeover as I continued to hone my craft and discover my style.
I discovered my love for wall treatments and beautiful trimwork over the years. This home will aways have a special place in our hearts!

ReplyDeletevery beautiful.
DeleteLove your taste for home and comfort! Thanks for all the inspriation in 2009 - You don't know this, but -
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me to get off my duff and create the vision ringing in my head for so many months! I finally did it! My space off my kitchen which has been dubbed "THE CAFE" is painted burnt orange, as well as my COFFEE themed KITCHEN! With all the beautiful coffee/latte kitchen rugs and valance --- You helped me channel my inner HGTV and I just thought you should know that -
Keep on keepin' on! I s ee you love thrifty finds - I do too! It's amazing what people will give/throw away! OMG!
So, from my heart to yers, Thanks for everything!
I loved looking at your site! You are very talented. I love decorating too. I also love to save $$! So, I do alot of things myself as well. I am getting ready to move into my parents old farm house that my dad was actually born in! We are totally renovating it, and I am very grateful and excited to get in there. Getting ready to make many curtains and I loved the ones you did using the muslin. I am going to give that a try for our "school room." (We homeschool the kids.) Loved, loved, loved looking at your pics! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteYour house looks amazing, warm and so inviting :) I love your style and the fact that you do it frugally is even more impressive!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE the ideas. I found you through a google image search for ideas for a kitchen pantry....and...well!!! I am truely inspired!! Thanks:) Erin, lil' town in Iowa
ReplyDeleteSo I stumbled on to your blog late one night and have been completely inspired ever since! I would say my first attempt to decorate my house was not entirely failed, but taught valuable lessons of what not to do!
ReplyDeleteThis summer I will have tons of "free" time when my husband is away in South Carolina doing his paramedic internship. So I will be using this "free" time to knock down a wall or two with the help of my father in law! By no means is he against any renovations, he just doesn't have the time to help! So thanks for the inspiration of sharing your own home with the rest of us!
You have a beautiful home, love everything you've done so far!
ReplyDeleteSue

I'm so glad you posted the pantry door project. We have been trying to come up with ideas for our pantry and this one is perfect because I have 2 of the same doors in my basement collecting dust. I'll be sure to post my pictures. Wish me luck...lol

I absolutely LOVE your sight! I so look forward to your new articles. You have awesome ideas and i applaud you on a great job!
ReplyDeleteIMPECCABLE. Thank you so much for posting your brilliant ideas for the rest of us who have great taste and style too but maybe are not as creative as YOU. Your home is amazing. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI love your home!!! I just started following you after seeing A Thoughtful Place featured here. Its refreshing for me to see a blog/home featuring colors other than pale neutrals and furniture other than white slipcovered sofas (not that I don't love that look but its just not happening around here). Here at my pad we have RED couches and its sometimes tough to get inspired when looking at color palettes so different from my own.
ReplyDeleteAnd, can you believe that you almost have 10000 followers?!? I currently have ONE, but my goal is 100 by the end of the year!
I just wish I had your house as my slate to create on!
ReplyDeleteMine is a 1977 mobile home that I've been remodeling for 7 years...not much time to tweak when I'm still working on the nitty gritty stuff!
I LOVE your blog, it's the first one I found that I followed and I've found tons of others from yours.
Thanks!
I love the look of your foyer. Here in sri lanka we have little space for a foyer, but in my own way, I try to create one.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog so much! Your home is gorgeous as well. You have very creative and unique decorating ideas. Can't wait to see more. Hope you'll visit "Sweet Tea w/Cindy" soon. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful.....loving the colors!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! Very good job, looks great!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I just want to say that I love your blog and check it every day! We are now in the market for new floors, and I looked all over your website, but can't find any information on your gorgeous floors. Are they hardwood or laminate? What color/brand are they? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFound my answer! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSamantha
I have to say I LOVE your home, your decorating style, your home has now become my inspiration as I am in the process of decorating every room in our apartment! Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautiful, cozy, and inviting. All three things that a home should be, if you ask me. Thanks for letting us visit. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your style! Your an inspiration to someone starting a home decor blog. Thanks!
ReplyDeletedecorandgarden.blogspot.com
I found your website from "HookedonHouses" and I simply LOVE your ideas! You have made me want to re-think my "buy-it-and-place-it" mentality!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
You are "right on the money" I have always used thrift stores!!! I have been treasure hunting with my mom since I was a little girl. I have friends who love my home and most importantly so does my family! Enjoyed your website!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of your beautiful home! I just recently found your blog, and it has given me sooo much inspiration!! You are super-fun to read, very witty writer, and amazingly clever, resourceful, and creative in your home. You've got some mad skills, girl!
ReplyDeleteI was looking at your dining room pics and it dawned on me that the textured wallpaper treatment you did on your master BR on canvas, would look super cool in the sectioned moulding areas on your DR wall. I also thought that maybe the rectangular mirror could be replaced with say, three small sunburst mirrors hung vertically in the center above your buffet between moulding? Just a thought...though it really looks great the way it is!
Thank you for your awesome ideas, and fun posts and pics. You just plain ROCK!
Your house is absolutely stunning. I bet you let out a big sigh every time you step into your house and smile. You should with all the hard work you've put into it. I must admit I love the book nook area. I love reading and having a comfortable cute little area like that makes it a lot more fun. Keep up the amazing talent you have Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI recently found your blog and have become addicted. I feel like we are similar people, my house just isnt as finished as yours is!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of your inspiration....Its making me want to get this place done!
First of all, I just have to say I LOVE YOUR WORK. My stepmom sent me your link because I am an interior design junkie and I just knew from the first glance you and I have a lot in common (that is a compliment). You have a great modern style that mixes so well with the traditional look and fixtures. Can you tell me the paint colors you used on your living room and stairway? That would be great! I currently have 5 color spots painted on my wall as I am trying to pick the best one and I really like what I see on yours. Thanks and God bless!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Great pics and a lovely down-to-earth style. I am definitely going to follow it from now on. I write about home decor on a budget too.. check it out when you have time. Melissa

OMG!!! Love your decorating and the sofa table is to die for!! Kudos to you! Your home is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love your house! You took everything I wanted and made it happen. Now if you can just come do this to my house! Love Love Love! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWas wondering if you would have any recommendations for dividing colors between rooms. I have a formal living/dining right when you walk in my front door. Directly in front of the door is a small arch that leads to the open kitchen/family room. I have not idea how to blend the colors but create seperate spaces. My email is wskoff@yahoo.com. I also have floor plans that may better show you want I'm talking about. Love your home! and your design!
ReplyDeleteI love your style!!! It's exactly the look I'm going for. I have unknowingly saved some of your photos to my own computer scrapbook (your foyer, powder room, and back staircase) because I loved them so much. It wasn't until just now when I looked at all the photos of your home here on your site that I realized they all came from the same home. That being said I am now a devoted follower. You are my inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Your home is lovely and such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love your site! I am a new visitor & follower from Rhoda's. Your home is beautiful & I love that you LOVE color :) I enjoyed your "this chic" page!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog via interest...seriously awesome.
ReplyDeleteHey I just love your site. Makes me want to live in the States!!!
ReplyDeleteGetting excited about your Christmas blogs......

Love your Blog and am thrifty myself. I have referenced your kitchen and island post over and over. I do have a question. I am extremely visual and while I decorate also, I need help for my own kitchen. We just recently had hardwoods put throughout the house in a gunstock oak finish. It warms up our home beautifully. We also are having a custom gourmet island built in a distressed black finish and I am DYING to do a butcher block top. I got a sample today and it is a light maple color. Our main kitchen cabinets are an antiqued cream. I am totally goin for the French Country Kitchen. My concern is: Will the light maple block on a distressed black cabinet on gunstock (warm) oak flooring with the antiqued cream cabinets be odd looking? I wish the block was a little warmer in color, but alas it is very light. HELP! Any help you could give would be so appreciated! Thanks for listening to me ramble!

ReplyDeleteI love your style! Your home is BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your home! It is beautiful and such an inspiration. My boyfriend and I have been in remodel mode since we moved in to our 1935 home four years ago. We have made a lot of progress but I absolutely love how you did your fireplace. It looks exactly how I have envisioned ours to look... but it isn't there yet. Still a work in progress. :) Keep on doing what you do! You are great at it and your blog is so refreshing! Thank you so much!! -Chris G.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!!! I love the family room but I prefer to have a bigger space than that coz I have a big family and we have kids who usually run and play around. The book nook I am now planning to provide space for that I love reading and I absolutely want to have a place for it aside from my own room. Thanks for the wonderful ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteStanding O !! Wonderful job........your decorating skills surpass most of the bloggers I have seen to date. You have a great eye! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.........

ReplyDeleteWow! I came across your blog after Google searching for DIY headboards and I'm truly inspired by every one of your designs! I am in England so it's hard to recreate some of your looks/makes/ideas but I'm gonna dam well try! Thanks for sharing.. What a beautiful home you have! x
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I've been a reader for a number of years, ever since we bought our first home. So much of the decor in my house can be attributed to inspiration from your blog! Yours is my very favorite blog! Thanks for the time you put into it! Love your beautiful home! So many exclamation points!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your tips with us all! Can you tell me what paint color you used on your basement room walls?
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! That color is Marina Gray by Benjamin Moore at 75 percent so it is a bit lighter.
DeleteCall me slow but I just discovered you on instagram which led me to your blog. You rock girl....fabulous everything.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have a wonderful eye for detail.
ReplyDeleteGot tons of ideas!! Thanks so much for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your house! I am particularly drawn to your throw pillows. I saw your blog about making pillows from Pottery Barn towels, but I am wondering where else you buy your pillows or fabric from. Particularly any of the blue ones (patterned and floral). I am looking for dark blue/navy pillows right now and can't find anything like the ones you have, but they are perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this is soooooo beautiful!
