Every year on this day I post some of my photos from the Ground Zero Museum in New York City. If you’ve read TDC for awhile you know of our deep love for NYC. I fell in love, hard, with the very first trip. It was eleven years ago, less than two weeks before the terrorist attacks on our country.
I share these photos every year because they say so much more than words can.
I’ll let them do the talking:
We visited NYC a few months after the attacks and then the year after a few times, and on one trip I saw this note someone had written this note on one of the walls around Ground Zero. It really spoke to me, and still does:
I still pray for all of those affected that day – in D.C., Pennsylvania and New York.
God Bless the USA!!
Thank you for sharing. The personal stories always get me. I will never forget.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are heartbreaking. Crying now. God bless those families on this day and every day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. This event is so much a part of my memories (I'm originally from NJ and now live in Staten Island) so it's nice to see things like this.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Its all I can right now... :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a tragically beautiful display. Even though I live 4000km (2500 miles) away, I remember that day and witnessing the events unfold, live, on the TV.
ReplyDeleteLove and light to all Americans touched by this horrific event.
Thank you for sharing.
I am not American, I am Australian, but I was sitting up late watching the news that night when this all unfolded on the tv before me. After a few days my husband had to disconnect our tv because I was getting so distraught watching it. I still tear up every time I replay the images in my head and I am tearing up now reading this. Praying for everybody.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. Beautiful. I'm a New Yorker and I will NEVER FORGET!!! Even after 11 years, it's still extremely hard to talk about.
ReplyDeleteIt would be impossible for any of us to forget that day but still important to see this kind of tribute! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, we will never forget . . .
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, this is beautiful. It never hurts to be reminded.
ReplyDeleteTaking a moment today to remember all those who lost their lives and the survivors permanently affected by the horrors of that day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this.
I visited the Ground Zero Museum on a trip to NYC. Reading your post took me back to that small room. Such a touching tribute. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the pictures and thoughts of September 11th.
ReplyDeleteI visited that hallow ground 3 years later and spent many hours in tears as I saw those same pictures that you shared today. It's important that we not forget. We saw an outpouring of love and patriotism and caring from many in our nation.
Very moving. Thank you for posting.
ReplyDeleteEven though I had just arrived at work that day, we had the TV on and saw the event unfold live. I couldn't stop crying about all those people, and thinking what life would be like from then on. Amazingly, my daughter got married the next year and now I have 3 beautiful grandchildren. The Lord showed me that life can go on, but now I take the time to pray every time I hear a siren or a news story about a disaster somewhere. I'll never forget.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, Sarah. It's easier for us to move on as the years pass (I wonder if it was similar to the way people felt after Pearl Harbor), but remembering what happened and the way our country finally united, for however brief a time, is so important.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless America.
This is always an emotional day. I love to read your 9/11 post every year. I wonder if there will come a day when I don't shed tears on 9-11? I hope not. We should never forget that tragic day.
ReplyDeleteThis post had me in tears! There is no way I could visit that museum without having a breakdown. I had to scroll through most of your post to force myself not to read the stories. I'm an emotional wreck when it comes to 9/11
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing those photos. The stories are very moving.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. It brought me to tears as I looked at the pictures and read the heartfelt works about that terrible day. Pictures really do speak a thousand words! I had planned a trip to New York with some friends and we never made it there due to the events of 9/11. I do hope to still have the opportunity to visit one day. That day is still fresh in my mind, almost like it was yesterday. I can't imagine what the families of the victims must go through. It tears at my heart and I just cannot imagine the pain they must feel. God Bless the USA!!

ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing display of emotion and courage. So many hearts aching in their own way. Each gesture is so special.
ReplyDeleteLast year I found your blog and saved the pictures of the drawings of the twin towers turning into hearts. I plan to include in my memory book of 9/11 and the day Bin Laden was put down.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, poignant post. Thank you for sharing these images again, they offer a perspective of the tragedy of that day that few will get to experience.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Those photos speak louder than any words. Tears are litterally streaming down my face.
ReplyDeleteSo absolutely moving. Thank you for posting these pics. Someday I hope to visit the memorial. I can only imagine how emotional it is to be there in person. No, we will never forget.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing. I find it still so difficult to read the personal stories. I thought about that day today as I was putting out my flag. Remembering how I was terrified as I went to sleep that night. Waking and hoping that somehow it was all a terrible dream. Fearful of what was in store for us. Grabbing my family together to do what we could to help by sending water, supplies etc. Remembering how strange it was to not hear any planes overhead and how I could easily cry hearing our national anthem. God bless all those who have suffered from those tragic events.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures...thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGosh.... Thank you for sharing those pictures. Being that I've never visited NY and only heard stories and watched news clips about 9/11, those pics were pretty heart stopping.. Again, thanks for sharing and prayers for all that are still missing their loved ones.
ReplyDeletetoday I drove from texas to Colorado Springs...and all a long city after city half mast flags...listening to cnn ...and remembering...that morning at work saw news and watched 2nd plane hit..first thought my son the marine..was on USS Pelielu with the 15th MEU...my thought was he is going and from then one he was part of the those that went to battle for us...the pictures are appreciated and a well written post...thank you so much
ReplyDeleteThank you for remembering this day. So many major fashion and design bloggers didn't even mention it. I live in Canada and can't believe anyone could omit even a mention of 9/11.
ReplyDeleteVery moving. Our thoughts are always with Americans on this day. It really makes you think when you see the museum and the words written, I have never seen phots like this. It certainly makes it just as hard as the days after 9/11. Jane (Australia)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. WE will always Remember
ReplyDeleteThank you....God Bless America.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing these. I had not seen them before and they are very touching. A beautiful way to show the love and dedication that came out of that ugly day.
Kelly
I will never forget that day. We are from N.Y. and had family in tower 1. We were blessed to know they got out safe. So many did not! Thank you for posting this. It touched my heart last year when you posted it and it touched me just as much again this year.
ReplyDeleteYes, I too am crying. I shed some tears yesterday as well. I imagine the museum has tissues available throughout? I haven't been there yet, but cried reading news yesterday, and cried hard over your photo journal here, so I know I can't avoid crying in NYC.
ReplyDeleteSooo sad.
Chrissy
We've been to the museum, and it is so worthwhile to visit. I pray we never forget.
ReplyDeleteI am no particular fan of New York City but that has nothing to do with how this post made me tear up. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteCame here to your blog for a Pottery Barn knock off post... and kept reading. Didn't have a clue in the world that I'd find myself in tears 15 minutes later. What a beautiful post this is. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a West Coaster. Never been to New York. But I remember that day well. And it's true what Governor Pataki said... All Americans became New Yorkers that day.
