The new & improved Thrifty Decor Chick!

July 20, 2021

Welcome to the new look and feel of Thrifty Decor Chick!

It's been a long time coming!

I've always said it's a mystery that I've been successful at this blogging thing.

I don't know coding...at all. I don't pay great attention to Google when they tell us to change things. I was blissfully unaware of what SEO was for years...and even now that I do, it's rare that I follow it perfectly. 😬

I just want to work on projects and write about them. :)

The new site went live last week and we've been tweaking things here and there since.

Overall the site should load much faster for you, especially on mobile devices. Also, the font is bigger and easier to read on both desktop and mobile...so much better!

When I was gathering the images for this post I found a blast from the past...has anyone been around since this blog header?:

I started my 14th (!!) year of blogging this past May, and it has been an absolute blast! I'm so incredibly thankful to do what I do.

Here's a quick virtual tour of the new site!

We added a drop down menu at the top, so you can access more information much quicker:

Home tours for our home and our first house are there with links to projects in every room, as well as a page with all of the paint colors in our home by room:

Hopefully that will make finding my paint colors easier for you!

You'll also notice that links in my blog posts are much easier to see now -- that's one of my favorite parts!

And when you see this pink highlight box, it will be something important on the topic!

We also added easy access to all DIY projects in one spot:

I plan to add more categories soon!

On the side bar, you can see links to my most popular posts. If you scroll down just a bit more, the labels I use to categorize posts are listed together.

Drop down that menu to see all of the topics I've blogged about over the past 13 years. :)

If you can't find what you're looking for in one of those places, you can use the search bar (click the little magnifying glass) on the right under my header.

Links to many of items in our home can be found by checking out my Amazon Storefront, or via the photos on my "Shop My Home" page under the SHOP tab:

And finally, if you'd like to be notified via email when I post, you can get new posts to your email by signing up here

Or use your phone to take a photo of this QR code:

I hope you enjoy the new look and design of Thrifty Decor Chick!

  2. You new site looks amazing! I just recently upgraded mine as well so I totally understand your excitement. But I do have a question...How do you find the time to do all your projects AND write about them. I feel like I never have time to do new projects because Im always blogging. Exept for right now because I have a contractor doing a project for me. :)

    1. Hello Lori! It's a struggle sometimes! It takes a LONG time to write a blog post, I know. I try to focus on writing/blog work some days and the DIY stuff other days...it's rare that I tackle both in one day. That helps me focus better on one or another. :)

  4. I remember that old header also.
I’ve been with you for at least the past 10 years if not a bit longer!! Yours is the only one of all the original blogs I started with that I have continued reading! Thanks for staying authentic.

  7. You were the first blog I followed and I remember your green and brown header. But I do love this new look. Love all your easy DIY and decor projects and how to decorate your home for less and still look stylish.

  8. I've only been following you since 2016 when I was googling how to make an upholstered headboard and liked not only your instructions but your voice (personality came through). I noticed the new website look right away and love it!

  9. I hate to say this, but it loads so SLOW for me. None of the pictures display. I tried Google Chrome browser and Microsoft Edge. I am on Windows PC - latest OS. The only graphics that load are the ads. :( I thought it was just a problem the first day it launched but it's still the same.

Yours is one 3 blogs that I still check - so many people have abandoned theirs or made them into a constant barrage of "sponsored posts". I love that you just do beautiful projects and share. It's why I keep coming back. I'm hoping that whatever the issue is gets resolved.

    1. Ugh, I'm sorry about that! That's so weird -- I know everyone says this, but have you tried clearing your cache? It always works for me. I don't know why it would be doing that for you. :(

  10. Love your new look! I have been following you for years! I am about the same age as you and my only son is about a year behind yours so I have always been able to relate to all the Lego and Nerf gun phases! I have searched many decorating blogs but yours is still my favorite. I have tried many things you have shared and you have encouraged me to be bold at trying new things like faux painting my garage door to look like wood! My home is better for all that you have shared! --Jaime

  11. Love the new look! I remember that green header! You were the first blog I ever found and I thought blogging was an Indiana thing since we were both from Indiana. 🤣
