January in review!

Hey hey! I can hardly believe the first month of the year is DONE. I know I say that every month, but for real. It’s crazy.

I’m back with another month in review for January! I kinda skipped over December, just because I was a little tired of looking at Christmas decor by the 31st. (Remind me of that come September when I’m chomping at the bit for Christmas to come.)

I started off the month with the first Before and After Party of the year, and I recapped some of the before and afters that I accomplished last year. The black interior doors in the kitchen were a favorite:

Go check out 441 before and after projects linked up here!

Next up I shared my anticipation for a few projects I’d like to accomplish this year. I’m super excited about all of them – I just hope I can find the funds, time and resources to get them done.

I’m really hoping to install built ins in the loft:

Wouldn’t they be perfect right there?

I did a little bloggy series with a few friends of mine and my topic was making moola:

how to make money blogging

I really appreciated all of your comments on that one! Check out more of the Growing Your Blog posts here.

One day earlier this month I went shopping at Target and couldn’t believe all the awesome decor stuff they had. I shared a few of my favorites here.

I mean, who doesn’t love Target?!

Next up, I showed you the step by step process to make your own printables using Picnik:

make your own printables

Yes. I’ve heard the news that Picnik is closing down. No, I don’t want to talk about it. I’m still in mourning. :)

I know of a few different other options and will let you know what I end up using instead.

Scuffs feet.

Anyway, next up I shared a big project I’ve had rolling around in my brain for awhile…I’d like to change our completely unused dining room and turn it into a library:chocolate brown dining room

And you all totally convinced me to do it. ;) Yes, we already have a family room and a living room.  But I’d much rather have a space I know we’ll use and enjoy, instead of a pretty room that no one ever uses. Unused spaces give me hives.

Up next, I shared what I have in store for TDC in 2012, including a switch from Blogger to WordPress:

I’m sceered. :)

Don’t forget the February Before and After Party will be February 6, and the Show Us Your House party will be the 20th, where we’ll be sharing closets of all shapes and sizes!

I FINALLY revealed my finished office! It took five years or something, but it’s done and I LOVE IT:

gallery walls I shared all of the details of the office (paint colors, sources and how-to’s) in the next post:

And you all showed off 144 craft and office spaces of your own!

We spent much of our Christmas vacation in the least decorated space in our house – our unfinished basement “family room”:

I shared a little more about our plans to finish that space too. So exciting! No idea when it will happen, but so exciting!

I had been looking for the perfect piece for between our living room windows, and I finally found it on a trip to HomeGoods. I showed you how I accessorized it here:

Next up, I shared a deep dark part of myself – the fact that I am (and always have been) a night owl:

WOW, there was a big response to that post! So many of you are JUST like me! It was a relief, I gotta tell you. I’m on a mission to become a morning person, and I’m doing pretty well with it. (You may notice my posts are going up a tad earlier.)

I mentioned the other day that I’ve started using the Sleep Cycle app on my phone, and it. is. amazing. Have any of you tried it?

I showed off some of the amazing craft and office spaces that were linked up this month:

And finished up the month by bragging on the city that I love, Indianapolis:

It’s such an exciting time here in Indy right now! So fun!

So there you go! Just in case you missed a post – we can’t have that now can we?

I’m knee deep in a pantry redo (seriously, knee deep in piles of food) that I was hoping to show you this week, but a nasty cold has taken hold and knocked me on my butt. I’m hoping to get more done tomorrow and finish it up this week!

You know, so we can find the food. :)

P.S. I think I said “shared” 67 times.

  1. Such an amazing month! I really need to look into that app. Maybe around 2 am when I have nothing else to do.

If you have time (yea, right) you should come read my latest blog post about clumbsy I am. I think you've mentioned you're accident prone. I may have you beat.

  2. Great posts as always! I completely missed the making moola post, so glad to have caught it now!

  3. Yes to the built-ins. My husband builds everything in - if we ever move I will have nothing!

I've noticed a few other blogs making the switch to wordpress. Maybe do a little post sometime about your reasons, I'm curious what the advantages over blogger are.

  4. I love love love that loft idea!

  5. Feel better quick! My poor little girl has had lice, the stomach flu, and a cold all in about 2 weeks' time. You would think I never clean around here! (I do...really, I do!) It is just that yucky, germy time of year...come on spring! I had no idea Picnik was shutting down. :( I'm only about two months into my blog and still figuring things out, so I am anxious to see what you recommend! Thank you, Sarah, for all your inspiration!

  6. I totally missed the making money blogging post - I will be checking that out right now! Sorry you are sick and hope you are feeling better soon!

  7. can you please tell me where you puchased your round dining table?

  8. What a busy month! I had totally forgotten about the Target post - I had even gone a few days later and looked for the stuff you took pictures of. I dragged my husband to HomeGoods on Saturday. I haven't been in YEARS, but I'll be going on a much more regular basis. I also placed my first order with Wuslu. Can't wait for my apples to get here. I'm dreaming of a new house where I can turn the formal dining room into a library. Thank you so much for sharing all of your ideas. Hope you feel better!

  9. I really enjoyed all of your posts, especially the one about the unused dining room (I'm in the midst of converting mine into a school room/reading room/craft room) and it's been quite the task...and I can't stand painting! I also enjoyed the post about blogging - it was really cool to hear how you got started and I enjoyed reading the other ladies' posts about it also. I'm looking forward to hearing about the pantry re-do...I need help with mine!

  10. I overuse "share" too, but it's hard to come up with another word to share. ;) Seriously, you always have the best months! I loved your office redo, and can't wait to see the pantry.

  11. The dining room as a library will be fantastic, can't wait to see what you do with it! Janell

  12. Nice Month in review! I love the new office..it looks very inspiring!

  13. Changing the door colors to black make a beautiful difference. Also, I really, really like your idea for the loft. It going to look fantastic!

  14. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!!
If I may ask though....where did you find your breakfast table....that is exactly the size/style I am trying to find for us!!

  15. I've been using the Sleep Cycle app for the past couple nights and it really is amazing! I don't necessarily jump right out of bed, but I definitely don't feel as groggy!

  16. I too tried the Sleep Cycle app as I'm a night owl myself. I can't quite get on the it's awesome train though, unfortunately. First, it picks up all of my husbands movements on the other side of our king sized bed in addition to my own. So the stats it spits out each morning are kind of useless... unless I want to know what times of the night we're both still or "in a deep sleep" according to the app. Second, if my husband wakes me up (accidentally) before my alarm goes off, sometimes I'll just lie there. And then the alarm just won't go off until the end of the half hour because I'm not moving. That's probably my own issue as I don't have the motivation to get out of bed when I'm woken in the first place! :) Third, it totally woke me up in the middle of a deep sleep because again, it felt my husband rolling around and thought I was in a light sleep. I was having a good dream too! I'm glad it works for you and hope it continues to. I guess I'm just going to have to find some other methods of trial and error til I get something that works for me!

  17. You put my month of Jan to shame! Wowza! Busy lady! Great projects!

  18. LOVE love love the finished office!

Oh, and I'm also moving my blog from blogger to WP this year. I'm also sceered but I'm assured it is totally worth it!

BTW...I tried to "pin" some of your items to pinterest and it said it couldn't find any pictures on the page! ugh.

  19. You are one busy lady! Great month. I love the change out from the white doors to the black it just shows you how a change like that can really impact a space. Just beautiful.

  20. Wow! Isn't it great to look back and see all that you've accomplished?! I would love it if you would stop by my spot and see what I've been up to. Hope you feel better!

  21. I only recently discovered your blog through Pinterest, and I'm really hooked. There aren't many blogs I visit regularly, but this is one of them. I just wish I felt more confident in my handy-ness so I could try more of your really awesome ideas. But the more I read, the more I feel like...maybe I COULD do it... ;) You're awesome!

  22. Call me crazy but I'm inspired by your unfinished basement. Probably because mine is unfinished. I have oodles of ideas and minimum $. The black doors are beautiful. Love your month in review.

  23. I also LOVE the black doors. I might try that in my kitchen since it's on my "To Do List" to paint the island black and install glass in the upper cabinet doors. The black doors would really set it off.

  24. I was bummed too when I read Picknik is closing! Boo! I found another site that is eerily similar that you may like to try: Ipiccy.com.

    Love your blog!

I LOVE your comments, thank you! (I read every single one.)
