Where to find unique knobs for furniture

May 24, 2013

I stopped by Hobby Lobby this week to look for some knobs for the powder room vanity – there’s still so much to do in there but sometimes I allow myself a “fun” project here and there. It gets me even more excited about getting it done. :)

Over the past few years Hob Lob has been my go-to place for pretty, funky decorative knobs and they didn’t disappoint this time either. They have such a fun selection and I think they are always half off now, so you really can’t beat it!

I loved this nautical inspired compass knob:

I may have to go back for those for the Bub’s bathroom redo…which will come when I’m ready to face bathroom redos again. ;)

This bicycle one was adorable:

I have a girlfriend who loves bikes and this reminded me of her. ;)

They have a HUGE selection of painted ones too – I absolutely loved all of the color on these:

And if you want something more subdued there are a ton of glass options too:

I loved that aqua glass one – I wanted those but they didn’t have enough.

These button knobs were just too stinkin’ cute!!:

I’m still trying to think of where I could use them. How fun would those be in a craft room or toy room?

I thought these mercury glass-looking ones were pretty too:

So elegant – and I think they were $4 each and half off? You can’t beat it people!

These spigot handles were adorable too, and would be super cute in a bathroom:

Ohhhh my goodness…I just thought of a fun way to use these! I may go grab a few to put on my potting bench outside for hanging my gardening tools. Adorable. (Don’t go grab them all umkay??)

They have a ton of hooks and handles too – this one would look amazing against a white dresser or vanity:

Awesome, yes?

I wanted something with with a big pop of color but also a simple design for our vanity, so I went with these beauties:

aqua knobs, white dresser

The base (the white part) was actually a creamy color that looked dingy against the white drawers, so I taped off the knobs and spray painted it. They look SO much better!

I LOVE the aqua color against the white vanity (which I’ll tell you more about soon):

aqua knobs, white vanityKnobs and hardware are another one of those little details that I love to change up – they can add some real beauty and interest to a dresser or vanity for not a lot of money.

Where do you find your knobs? Have you found some cool ones at Hobby Lobby? My only complaint about theirs is that they loosen up easily – much easier than others I’ve purchased. But the aqua knobs came with a washer so I’m hoping that helps keep things tight. Anyone else notice this?

  1. I think I just got a little sick...i googled Hobby lobby because now I have to go there, like NOW and the closest one is 106.6 miles away. that just seems wrong. Should I put my house up for sale. LOL

Looks like I will have to stick to this and try doing buttons this way.

    1. I have just read recently a posted statement from the owner of Hobby Lobby that they might have to close. They might be fined so many millions(a day) for not complying with Obama's healthcare and so far Hobby Lobby cannot get an exemption (because they are a
Christian business, etc. Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite places and they have such beautiful thing

s I would hate to see this happen. (In my opinion this (to me) is discrimination.

    2. Don't Christians need healthcare? Why should they be exempt?

    3. Make the trip, less than 2 hours driving and you'll spend 4 hours just happily browsing and taking in all the wonderful things they carry. Waning, though, better give yourself a big spending budget because you'll will want to buy everything! LOL
The closest one to me is 45 miles, but think about how sad you'll be if they do close their doors and you miss out on wonderland!

  2. I LOVE the aqua glass one too! And the compass one would look AMAZING on the dresser in my parents' guest room!

  4. The last time my sister and I went to Hobby Lobby we spent OVER an hour just in the knob section...I kid you not! I picked out some gorgeous knobs that have a pseudo antique map in shades of brown and turquoise to put on an antique dresser that was my grandmother's. I haven't painted the dresser yet but put the knobs on anyway just to see how they looked. Gorgeous! I am so glad Hobby Lobby is a 45 minute drive from my house or I would spend every bit of my paycheck there!!

  5. Dawn, if you go on their website, they have a "shop online"section!! I'm sure it is not every item in the store, but there are tons of items, including knobs and hooks like these. I've ordered from them before with no problems, even fabric. I live in Oregon but we are going to Utah in June, so Hobby Lobby is on my must do list. Beware... it'sa HUGE store and you can spend many hours and not see everything! ;)

  9. I almost bought the same compass knob at hobby lobby a few weeks back, but put it back and kinda sorta regretted it since. I bought a nice big black and cream knob from them and put a coral and cream version back. Now that I just redid a table, I NEED the coral knob afterall and hobby lobby is not close to my house : (

    1. Lauren...if you can send me a pic of what you bought, I could go to my store and look for the coral/cream version & text the pic to you. You could paypal me for the cost plus postage. I don't mind helping people out that don't live 10 minutes from Michael's or Hobby Lobby like I do.

  17. I was just looking at these same knobs at Hobby Lobby two days ago! I'm refinishing an old armoire and the most exciting part to me is choosing the knobs. It's so, so fun! I didn't see those bicycle ones, though, and they're kinda really appealing to me now...good thing I didn't settle on one yet. I'll be going back soon to reevaluate.

  18. Beautiful knobs! I love the aqua ones you picked out. Love the touch of color to contrast with the clean white look.

  19. Is that an Ikea Hemnes vanity? We just built a house and used them in EVERY bathroom - in the dark color. I LOVE the drawer space!! I had also not thought about replacing the knobs to change them up a bit bath by bath - duh! Can't wait to get right onto that!!

  23. I went looking for knobs recently at Hobby Lobby and found some glass ones I loved. There were only 8 and I needed 22. I asked a lady working there and she told me they could order more. They haven't come in yet but as far as I know the sale price still applies. One thing I learned is that the sale items in store are not on sale on their website. I wish they were. So if you find some you love, ask to order more in store! -Amy

    1. That's where I got the knobs for my daughter's dresser I re-did. http://www.easierthanithought.com/2013/02/pretty-painted-dresser.html
I love their knobs! As for the issue of loosening, I have found that to be true as well. My husband suggested lock washers to solve the problem. I have yet to try it, but it sounds promising. You can get them at any hardware store.

  27. To keep my knobs from loosening I put a little clear nail polish on the screw part! While it's still wet screw it on- it works for me!

  28. I love that nautical knob. I was just thinking it would look great in my boys bathroom. I love Hobby Lobby, too. I recently bought some wall art, picture frames and light switch covers for my boys rooms. It's not stuff you see everywhere and it's inexpensive. Oh, and it's by my favorite hamburger place, Fuddruckers. ;)

    Love your website!

However, I have a question. If I go to click on a link on your page, it opens up to a new tab. I was wondering if you knew how to fix this. I'm using Google Chrome, if that helps.

  30. What good luck...I just today moved a little table between rooms and realized it needs a new drawer pull. "Where should I look for such a thing?" I wondered. Thank you for the answer!

  32. YES! But why?! I redid our terracota tiled bathroom in our old farm house and I bought green depression glass knobs (like 50 cents each?!?whhhaaaa) and they were good for like 6 months but now it seems I am constantly trying to get them to stop spinning - I have the washers on them and everything....I am glad I am not the only one...because i was just thinking about changing them out!

HOBBY LOBBY is awesome for knobs and baskets. Love that store. My BFF and I spent 2.5 hours there one day just looking at EVERYTHING and chatting. Perfect day out. Love the knobs you found.

  34. I LOVE those spigot knobs! How creative! That would be fun to use in a garage too. I love all the personal touches that you can give to a piece of furniture, just by adding something simple as these. Hobby Lobby, here I come!

  35. I love their knobs but haven't looked in awhile. Thanks so much for sharing -- I got uber excited over the mercury glass ones. Even had to show my hubby the picture, and even he went, "Wow, those are gorgeous!" Now, I must find a spot for them. ;-)

The ones you picked are so cool! They look like pieces of turquoise cut down. So cool!

  36. Hobby Lobby has the best knobs!! I recently bought a couple of the red spigot ones for our new media center & I absolutely LOVE them! They really make the piece look awesome & I get tons of compliments on them, too!

  37. They have a ton that look super similar to some at Anthropolgie... but for half price. Found this out AFTER I just put new Anthro knobs in bathroom. Oh well! Love the look though.

  38. I purchased some super cute knobs at World Market. They don't have as many as Hobby Lobby but they do have some really nice ones. The problem I have is...the post is really long. What do you do with that? Do you cut them off of just let them hang out in the drawer?

    ReplyDelete
  39. If the knobs loosen, why not just put a dab of glue to hold them tight?
