My priorities are whacked.

Exhibit A:

My cell phone. It’s broken. I mean, broke. Like hanging on by a wire, broken. If I open it, it dangles on the wire…

Yes I taped it. I’m putting off buying a new one as loooooong as possible.

You see…I want new bamboo shades for the family room.

Exhibit B:

My half of the closet. This is just half of my half. And I wear about one tenth of what is in here. And that one tenth, I wear over and over and over. Most everything here I could toss tomorrow and would never miss it.

I need new clothes – BAD.

But I need to buy some beadboard.

Priorities people.

Exhibit C:
Our fridge. OK, OK…I cleaned it out today. It’s not usually this empty I swear. And yes, my son gets fed.

But if I could, I would never buy more than milk, eggs and Pepsi so I could get more of our Pergo floors to install in the dining room.

Serious.

Tell me I’m not the only one. And if I am the only one, just make me feel better, K?

P.S. I have to add -- my phone used to be cool. But at the time, the Bub was little and it was his favorite toy. And it died from too much Bubba dropping/playing/drooling. This one was cheap and now that he isn't obsessed with them anymore...I'm holding out for an iPhone baby!!

  1. You're definitely not the only one. I was just writing up my grocery list and this thought seriously crossed my mind...

"How many variations of spaghetti can I get away with so I can buy me some new shoes??"

Well hey, it's just that I already HAVE lots of stuff for spaghetti. Oh and my cell phone is in the same boat. My son ripped it off the charger the other day and ever since it's just not the same.

  2. I'm right there with you. I scrimp on weird stuff so I can splurge on other things. Pergo is better than eating any day.

  3. NOT the only one. The right side of your fridge looks really full, btw...it takes the eye away from the left side. ;) I thought MY phone was bad...the screen is cracked, so all the cute pictures I have of my kids are warped, and a little scary, quite frankly. :)

  4. Oh my gosh. I'm laughing out loud. I think we have the same illness. My son's out of town this week and I've been excited about the fact that I can use grocery money to buy new bedding...or beadboard...or paint. What? I can live on tuna sandwiches and bowls of cereal.

  5. too funny I do this all the time!

  6. Random question: I saw you have three cats. I only have two and I feel like am surrounded with cat hair. How do you deal with all that hair? My biggest problems are hair on the furniture, hair on the bottom of curtains, and hair on my dark laminate wood floor. I was also wondering where you keep the litter box. My cats seem to track litter throughout my house so I looking for a better way to deal with too.

  7. just a comment about your post on stencils. I have done this for year, here are a few things that make it easier. Byr clear overhead projecter paper from walmart, print your words onto these, tape them together and cut them out. You can use them lots of times this way. I bought a wood burner/stencil cutter to cut out with---way easier and cleaner lines. Use spray stencil adhesive (walmart) on the back and you will never have bleeding. Hope this helps.

  8. This is too funny. I just was thinking that if I could make it to the end of the week without going to the grocery store, then I could get the new sheets that I'm hoping to get.

  9. You are not the only one.
I leave new cloths for people to get me as gifts during Christmas. However, this year was giftcards & instead of spending on cloths for myself I spend on house stuff.
Now I need to buy myself a new shirt every week b/c I have NOTHING. The jeans with holes will do for a while.

I would much rather wear the same thing over & over & over again while I make the house a home.

  10. This is SOOO me. I am right there with you!

  11. I agree. You arent the only one. I could live on Pepsi and do SO much with the left over money! But alas, the kids have been trained not to touch the Pepsi and they expect FOOD.

    Go Figure.

  12. I do have a nice phone (iPhone), but only so I can do Facebook and Twitter during my commute :) How horrible is that?

  13. Your phone looks alot like mine. I've had to replace it twice in a little over a year. Fortunately I have insurance on them and it didn't cost me to replace them.

  14. Pergo... bleh... save for real hard wood floors. You can afford them if you don't eat ANYTHING, don't buy NEW CLOTHES, and stop CALLING PEOPLE... then you won't need a phone either. See, it's easy!

  17. I am right there with you. And when you get your bamboo blinds, where are you getting them from? I am on the hunt for some too and could use a suggestion.

  18. Slip -- Home Depot has some on clearance right now -- try there first! (They don't have my size though...) I also go to Lowes and Target. Haven't found them for cheap anywhere though...

  19. Well, I see that along with your priorities your sense of humor is still in tact. What are you going to do with the beadboard prey tell?
I always enjoy reading what you have to say!

  20. That is so funny! I am the same way - except it's usually clothes or shoes that I'm trying to buy while scrimping on groceries. I HATE going to the grocery store!

    Funny!

  21. Hahaha... okay, I'm not laughing at you... or because it's funny... I'm laughing because... well I am guilty of the same thing... well, almost. Pretty darn close anyway! I think it's just one of those "you do what you gatta do" things... anyway - you're definitely not the only one!

  22. girl...i soooo get you!!!!
people actually make fun of me. it's amazing how we will spend $$$ on some things and just not other things. hey, you are who you are and that's just great!!!

  23. who wants to buy food. . . which is eventually gone, when you can get something pretty for the house. I am right there with ya! I loved your pictures and explanations!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh! A girl after my own heart. I would live on cereal and have the home of my dreams, if only I didn't have these hungry kids... :)

  25. Whew! I am glad to know that I'm not alone!!! My cell is in a little better shape, but the closet and fridge....I thought that you had come to my house and took those pics. We are coming up on our house's first birthday and I've been makin' a list of great things to get her lookin' pretty. Thanks for all your inspiration!

  26. You are crazy, but we love you! ;D

  27. Oh girl, no. Nothing comes between me and my phone, buying clothes or eating food! Haha!

You should sell some of your clothes on ebay or craigslist & use that money to get yourself a new(or at least working)phone off of ebay! Keep saving your "regular money" for your beadboard obsession! Baby Steps!

  28. Sarah, Thanks for coming by and being so supportive. I love your priorites. Just wait until you see my closet. LOL I have a lot.. of clothes. Hugs, Terrie

  29. You're so funny. I agree with the other person that suggested to sell some clothes on Craigslist. And I do the very same thing. I have thousands of clothes, but only wear about 10%.

  30. i read your blog all the time but rarely respond, so i figured it was about time...lol i laughed my head off with this post so i couldnt resist. My clothes are horrible, i dont like buying clothes as they just never look good on me, although i dont look good without them either...lol so i justify it by buying anything home decor, i only go as far as that section and head out the door.

  31. No, you are not alone. My closet has way too many clothes that are never worn. I would rather go to Lowe's than Macy's any day. I love my home, and I love my backyard , even my basement. I will think of you every time I go out.
    You have lot's of company.

  33. I left you the lemonade award on my blog for inspiring me to do new things and your wonderful attitude! Hope you will stop by my blog and pick it up and share the love.

  34. You are definitely not the only one! My cell phone is broken but still working. I will need another one soon! And my closet is the same way!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have bits of pieces of my phone that fall off every day... I love the tape!! Gotta try it myself!

And I was thinking the SAME thing this morning - my closet just needs to be cleaned... I wear the same 3 pairs of pants every week & have like 20 pairs in the closet - WHY?

    ReplyDelete
  36. HA! I am EXACTLY like that too Sarah...

I need new clothes desperatly as well but yesterday I went shopping for home decor'. HMMM...

    Too funny!

I must say I would have to get a new cell phone if that was one was mine...
    I talk waaaay to much.

  37. I stumbled on your blog a while ago, and I LOVER it! You're very talented, and I'm inspired to try some new molding tricks.

No, you're not the only one. I have had the same cell phone for 4 years, and it still works- most of the time. Why would you spend $150 on a new one, when you could buy bamboo shades?

I think it's great that you sacrifice on some things, so that you have extra $$ to spend on things that bring you joy.

Thanks for your blog. You're wonderful!

  38. That is where couponing comes in! I stockpile food so I can have extras to buy clothes, home decor items all with coupons of course so I get it way cheaper!!!
Check craigslist for a new phone, I bet you can find one for $30! :) Good luck!

  39. I just was freaking out yesterday that we took the kids out and spent $30 on a "family day"....FAMILY DAY? How can these kids have fond memories of childhood without the LIGHT FIXTURE that I need for above my sink????

And don't even get me started on clothes. Let's just say that my husband put it in the budget for next month...yeah, that bad. Bad meaning we just found a photo of me wearing THE EXACT SAME THING I was wearing holding a newborn baby (that is now almost five). Pitiful. Even more pitiful that I would rather take that money and make a Lowes trip ;)

  40. Regarding the phone, I'm with you! I have a standard-issued phone that NEVER DROPS CALLS...people make fun of me for having it because it's so old, but it works for me! I'm saving my money for a huge LV purse, flowers for the backyard, a can of paint or two and a trip to Ireland with my fiance!

    ReplyDelete
  41. How funny. My priorites are whack too. Don't feel bad. I soo want many things, but, I have to just wait. Waiting sucks...bad... anyway, hang in there.

  42. You are not alone! My master closet shelving "crashed" weeks ago and is barley hanging on but instead I just had to have new drapes for my freshly painted redecorated dining room. I think home decor is an addiction of mine!

    ReplyDelete
  43. i'm not you yet.....but traveling that way fast....I bought a flower frog and flowers instead of bread today

    ReplyDelete
  44. oh yeah. . .i was standing at the fabric counter trying to figure if I had enough to eat the rest of the month!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love that Pepsi is on your must-buy list! For me, I scrimp on everything so I can feed my bad shoe/accessories/costuming habits. Sad, really.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are definately not alone! I should have been out doing the grocery shopping today while hubby and the kids were at work/school. Instead, I was in bloggyland and craftyland.

    Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

  48. Hey Thrifty Decor Chick! I have been reading your blog for a couple months now, but have never commented. And I was thinking about you today while I was pinning a 'faux' bedskirt to a comforter... anyhoo... I was thinking I should write and tell you how wonderful and inspiring I think you are! And I totally am the same way with my priorities... sometimes I think my friends are like, 'get some cute clothes, seriously', but I just want to spend money on my house! :) (in thrifty ways, of course). Once I found your blog, and also other blogs that you link to, and they link to, etc., I was like, 'oh my gosh, there are people out there JUST LIKE ME! woah.' Okay, sorry, this comment is long. But I just wanted to say hi, and I'm a fan, and keep up the fun stuff! And thank you!
